I woke up to the scent of rain and it looked like it was still night but I was sure it wasn't I stretched and poked my head out of the den rain was pouring hard and the winds were strong. I felt as if I was going to be blown away. I looked around to see if it would end soon but no blue sky could be seen for miles just then I was blinded by a bright light as lightning shot from the sky hitting the sown ground below it startled me and it took a while for my sight to return.
I looked back in the den Atlas as the loud sound of thunder filled the air. Atlas was in the back of the den shivering scared his tail in between his legs as his ears laid flat whimpering. his brother stood next to me examining the sky he turned to me and sighed. "I'll be back keep an eye-" I cut him off angry at the fact that he was making me stay.
"I'm coming with you two hunters are better than one," I said I didn't want him to get hurt out there he didn't seem to argue with me. he ran out of the den and into the forest and I followed. I wish I had stayed. when we got home Atlas was gone it was still raining and almost all the snow was gone we dropped the prey of then split up to find him. I could barely see in front of me as I called out his name, his scent was covered by the rain and there was no paw prints to be found.
my limbs grew tired I had almost given up until I saw blood it smelt like Atlas my heart lurched in fear I made a loud signal to his brother then ran following the blood before the rain could wash it away. that was the fastest I had ever run. I came to a dead stop and my heart sunk as I saw his lifeless body just a little ahead I ran over to him his neck was cut and his eyes glazed.
it didn't take long for his brother to find me he rushed to his brother's side and tears filled his eyes. I stayed back my pelt soaked as the rain kept coming down. we buried him and returned to the dry den he didn't say a word as he laid in his nest his eyes full of pain and sadness. I soon fell asleep hoping this was just some bad dream.
