Kristen blinked. The sun was rising. Birds were chirping. Wow, the village was so quiet and beautiful in the morning. She threw the covers off and stumbled down the stairs. She could smell freshly baked bread.
“Good morning sweetie. I baked everyone some bread. How are you?” Kip asked.
Kristen rubbed her eyes. “Fine. Actually, great. It’s been a while since I’ve slept that well. But, I do feel very cold.” Kip wrapped her robe around Kristen.
“You are cold. Go get some socks on those feet! I have to go to work. Your bread is on the table. Your mother and brothers left early to search for work. Aaron is coming over in a few hours to hang out. We will all be back at four. Write a note if you leave.” Kip informed Kristen.
Kristen was dressed in a simple nightgown, and now Kip’s robe. Kip was wearing a crimson red fitted shirt and tan khaki pants.
“Bye, Kip. Happy first day.” Kip nodded and slammed the door. Kristen finished her bread. She ran up the stairs to find some clean, appropriate clothes for the forest biome. After all, most of her clothes were made for the desert heat. She brushed out her long brown hair and clipped it back with a comb. As soon as she was done, Kristen heard the doorbell ring. Another luxury that her desert village never had was doorbells. Kristen opened up the door to see Aaron wrapped in a thick winter coat.
“Hello friend. I see I wasn’t permitted to attend the move.” Aaron joked as he took off his boots.
“Sorry, mom said no friends allowed. She said you still did have some family to look after and that the offer was too quick.” Kristen admitted.
Aaron frowned. “Well, you look nice. Are we going around town?”
“You bet.” Kristen left a note on the door and packed her new token, a necklace that alerted her when her family wanted her home. The two bundled up and set off on their journey into the village center.
“Where to go first?” Aaron asked.
“Well, I’m just about as lost as you are. We just moved here last night, and this place is huge. Let’s check out that area. Must be a market of some sort.” Kristen pointed to a circle of carts and tents and objects she had only ever heard of and never dreamed to touch.
They walked up to a girl, passing out bread and pastries to others. She had long blond hair tied up into a tight braid.
“Hello. You must be new here. I know everyone that visits the market. They always come back for my bread. I’m Leighla.” The girl was a bit chubby, but overweight was an overstatement.
“We are. I’m Kristen.” Leighla shook her hand. “And this must be your brother. You two look exactly alike.” She shook Aaron’s hand. Aaron blushed. “Actually, no,” He responded. “I’m her friend, just a friend.”
Leighla’s ears reddened. “Oh, sorry about that. I have to keep helping these people. Hopefully I’ll see you tomorrow!” She waved as the two walked away.
“That was awfully friendly of her. These people are really nice.” Kristen nodded. She glanced behind her at Leighla, who was stacking bread while finding change for the townspeople.
“Kristen! Watch where you-” Kristen turned back around. To her horror, she was tripping into a portal. Whoa, an ender portal. Those were pretty rare in her village. She froze and toppled over the edge of the rim.
“Help! My friend is in trouble! Help! Someone! Please!” Aaron was screaming and merchants were gathering around. Kristen was gripping her ice cold fingers onto the obsidian. She looked beneath her. Lava. She was going to die.
“Hold on! I’ve got you! STAY THERE! DON’T FALL!” Aaron was attempting to grip her hand.
Kristen couldn’t speak. She was too afraid. Someone would help her, someone.
Aaron’s warm hand grabbed onto her sweaty palm and began to hoist her up.
“ARGH!”
Aaron tripped over the edge, sending the two falling towards the lava. Why they would have such a dangerous object in the middle of a market, they would never know.
All of a sudden, a white figure swooped underneath them and began to float. Aaron let out a blood-curdling scream. The white figure began to float towards a big chunk of netherrack.
“Shut up! I’m helping you! Don’t let Manny hear you!” The figure said in a deathly ice cold, depressed voice. All Kristen could do was hold on tight like Aaron.
The trio swooped through the wall of netherrack and into a huge castle room.
“Guards! Help! I found two mortals trying to invade our world again! Please chain them up and question them.” The white figure morphed into a beautiful white-gowned child.
“Yes, Mrs. Jennifer.” The zombie pigmen chanted and picked up the two friends. They were being carried to two tiny rooms far down the hallway.
“Stop! Who dares enter our prized underworld without permisson?” A deep voice bellowed.
“Two mortals, father. Both being imprisoned now.” The white cloaked girl replied.
“What are their names?”
“Aaron, sir!” Aaron shouted.
“Um, Kristen.”
A long pause echoed throughout the room. Perfect silence.
“Bring them to me. And address them as Cresswell for the boy, and Ena for the girl. Their real names.” He bellowed.
Kristen pinched her self.
Dammit. This was real.
