Translator: Flying Line
The envoy’s face darkened. His partner pulled his robe, signaling him to keep quiet.
After the two envoys were seated, Mu Xiyue moved closer to Long Yinfeng and whispered to him, “Five years ago, you defeated the Western Shu, didn’t you? Five years has passed, but they still hate you so much!”
Long Yinfeng looked at her, reached out to tidy up her hair and replied gently, “We lost a great many soldiers that year. So did they. They should be hating me.”
Mu Xiyue seized the envoys up and down. They were in colorful robes and what they were wearing looked like decorations from the Western Regions. “Could the so-called Western Shu be the Western Regions?” thought she secretly.
Long Yinfeng noticed that and he frowned, “Honey, stop staring at them, or I’ll be jealous.”
Mu Xiyue looked back at him. What he said gave her gooseflesh all over. She twitched her mouth and asked, “Did you take the medicine before you came?”
“Sure, I did.” replied Long Yinfeng, raising his eyebrow.
“Then you must have taken the wrong medicine.” Mu Xiyue looked at him in shock and teased confidently.
When Long Yinfeng wanted to ask what she really meant, there came some sweet music. A group of girls, dressed up in an exotic way, danced and wriggled in the hall.
With the veil, their faces were partially covered. Many little bells were tied to their waistbands. As they danced, the bells jingled.
One of the girls was wearing a dress of a different color. She could be the leading dancer.
They danced and danced to the music, which totally entranced the audience.
When the music died down, the emperor happily clapped his hands in applause. All the ministers echoed. Loud cheers rang out continuously.
The leading dancer walked up and payed the highest respect by kowtowing. She said, “I’m Princess Yina from the Western Shu. Hope our nations will always be close like brothers.”
Long Jingsong raised his hand and eyed the girl who was kneeling. He ordered, “Take off your veil and let me have a look.”
Princess Yina obediently took off the veil on her face, revealing her amazingly good-looking face.
Different from girls in the Central Plains, Princess Yina had deep blue eyes. She gave a feeling of a unique exotic style.
Long Jingsong stared goggle-eyed and waved at her. “Come. Come to me.”
The empress, sitting by his side, looked embarrassed. Noble Concubine Shu, however, was not surprised at all.
Princess Yina stood up and walked to Long Jingsong. Seeing his arm reaching out for her, she gave a bewitching smile and put her hand on his. Long Jingsong pulled her hand strongly and she sat in his arms.
Regardless of all officials, Long Jingsong lowered his head and kissed her face before he raised his head and burst into hearty laughter.
The officials raised their cups and chanted with one voice, “Congratulations, Your Majesty.”
Mu Xiyue watched and sighed, “Tut, it’s so great to be the emperor! However old he is, he can still marry a beautiful young girl.”
Long Yinfeng smiled at her remarks and replied indifferently, “He’s the emperor and owns the whole nation. He can marry ten or more young girls as long as he wants it.”
Mu Xiyue turned to him and asked, “It’s said that an emperor has thousands of concubines. Even if he sleeps with one concubine every night, I’m afraid he can’t enjoy all of them before he dies.”
Long Yinfeng was drinking tea. Before he swallowed the sip, he heard what Mu Xiyue said and he spat out!
Mu Xiyue leaned over and avoided it. She frowned and complained, “Gross!”
Long Yinfeng took out a piece of handkerchief and wiped his mouth. He stared at her and replied, “It’s your fault. I didn’t expect a girl like you to say that!”
Long Yichen, sitting opposite, watched them and felt quite unhappy. Concubine Xia filled his cup with wine. He raised his head and drunk it up. Concubine Xia filled his cup again and he drank it up again.
Concubine Xia then stopped. Following his gaze, she noticed Mu Xiyue and Long Yinfeng who were chatting and joking sweetly. She gently coaxed, “Your Highness. Don’t get drunk. Wine isn’t good for your health.”
“Mm.” replied Long Yichen. He turned his gaze and said nothing more.
In the hall, dancing girls performed and officials chatted cheerfully and toasted time and again in a very lively atmosphere.
The envoy, who just satirized Long Yinfeng, was known as Nu Jiaha. His eyes kept straying over to Long Yinfeng and drank with gloom. Seemed like he was discontented with the battle five years ago.
Suddenly, he stood up and clenched his fist in the other hand, saying to Long Jingsong, “Your Majesty. Our nation just found something interesting. This time, we brought it to you as a gift. In such a grand nation like yours, there’s no lack of talented guys. I’m sure you’ll find it fun!”
Long Jingsong frowned when he had a nasty feeling. But as the emperor, he had to take the bull by the horns.
He asked in a deep voice, “What is it? Show me.”
Nu Jiaha clapped heavily. Immediately, an attendant walked to the middle of the hall, holding a tray. On it put a colorful and square thing.
Officials were so curious that they craned their heads to see what it turned out to be.
Nu Jiaha took the thing out of the tray and explained, “This is a magic cube. It has six sides and each side has smaller cubes of one color. Now they’re in right order. Later, I’ll rotate it. I wonder if anyone of you can turn it back.”
Officials discuss animatedly.
“I haven’t seen such a thing before. Since it’s rotated in a mess, how could it be turned back?”
“Yeah. I haven’t seen it, either.”
“Why don’t we cut it and then reassemble it?”
Mu Xiyue stared at the little cube and smiled. Magic cube? Seriously? When she was on night duty in the hospital, she liked to play with the magic cubes to kill time. After trying for quite a lot of nights, she was very skilled in them.
Long Jingsong frowned harder. He stared at his officials and asked, “Does anyone of you play with it?”
“I’d like to try, Your Majesty.” One minister stood out and walked to Nu Jiaha. He took the magic cube and played with it. Unfortunately, however hard he tried, he failed to turn the cube back.
He had no choice, but to shake his head and returned the magic cube. “Sorry, Your Majesty. I can’t handle this.”
After he walked back, some other also officials offered to have a try. But none of them managed to turn the magic cube back.
