"Ok...Scream or... Woman In Black?"
Bells appears from her built in wardbrobe rattling the DVDs in my face. I shrugged and leant back into her chair hanging from the ceiling. She scowled at me.
"Why can you never choose the DVD?"
"Because. Whatever one i pick you always want the other one!"
"I do not!"
I scoffed.
"Alright fine. I choose The Woman In Black."
I watched her face falter slightly.
"See! You want to watch Scream." I said laughing and poking her in the stomache with my foot.
"Ok. ok. I do... we can watch it right?"
I nodded and took the final sip of sprite before throwing it neatly in the bin.
"Yay, what should we do now then?"
I knew exactly what she wanted to do but I always let her make me decide because she didn't like to admit why we always went there.
"Park?" I asked biting back my smile. She just about pulled off a casual nod.
"Sounds ok, I'll go get my coat, do you have yours here?" She wanders out the room nonchalantly. I nod to myself, pulling my hoodie out of my bag. I wait whilst she agonises over the seven coats she claims to need, even though she wears the same one every time. One day I will claim the rejected six.
She opened the door having chosen the predicted black furlined puffer, and I follow, quickly putting my hands in my pockets. It was chilly for summer. Bells locked the door and began walking with me up the path.
"Hey, Low might be there." I dropped in casually. I saw the sides of her mouth turn up. She had it so bad.
"Oh yeah, I forgot. He plays basket ball on saturday."
I nearly laughed. Forgot? P-lease, I wouldn't be suprised if it was written on her hand. She'd had a fat crush on Low for nearly 2 years. Nearly evertime I come over, which is pretty much every saturday, I suggest the park, knowing thats the only place she wants to go. We both know I know, but she always tries to deny it.
"Yeah. So... you still like him then?" I ask, as per.
"What? No!" She widens her eyes 'innocently'.
"You. Are such a bad liar." I said nudging her.
She continues to look clueless.
"Bells. Come on. You've liked him ever since he leant you a pencil in our A Level induction."
I saw her smile and laughed again. She frowned at me but her smile soon crept back up.
"Fine. But you can't tell anyone." I rolled my eyes. She asks so young sometimes.
"I'm your best friend, cut me some slack."
She nudged me back as we walk through the gates into the park. Sure enough, there was Low, in his shorts and vest, waving his arms to someone with ball.
"Wanna go on the swings so it looks like you're not oogling him when you are?"
She whacked my arm but followed me over anyway. I sat down and let the wind push me back and forth.
"Hey Romy." I looked up, Damien was smiling at me his arm half in the air.
I nod back at him with a wave.
Damien had been my maths, art and history partner in secondary school. We'd done a lot of joint projects, rather succsessfully I might add. Bells however saw our relationship differently, insisting 'even the teachers knew we were destined for love'. Today was of course, no different.
"Remind me again why you two aren't a couple?"
"Oh my God. Bells give it a rest already." I groan as though I wasn't expecting the question.
"I'm serious!" She stands up quickly, and wihout even remotely thinking loudly announces:
"Hey Damien, what do you think of Romy?" The entire team look up.
I slapped my forehead and kicked bells in the back of the knee, she buckled to the floor.
"Romy!" she said dramatically at me from the floor.
"You're lucky I don't yell over at Low. Pack it in already." She rolled onto her feet and shrugs sheepishly.
