Stephanie
Arnie sat across from us. He popped a French fry in his mouth. I picked at the remainder of my dinner. Now that he was here, I lost my appetite, but there was no way I could excuse myself from the table without getting in trouble.
"How was your day, my darlings?" he asked us.
I shrugged. "We didn't do too much."
Sammi cleared her throat. She shot me a look. "We had a great day, Arnie." She smiled reassuringly. "Steph is just having some lady problems, you know how it is."
I scoffed before I could stop myself. If anything, Sammi was the one on her period. Both of them turned to look at me. I focused my attention on the chicken.
"Great chicken," I retorted.
"Anyways, Arnie. We were wondering if when you went to the store, you could pick us up some more feminine hygiene products."
I knew it.
He nodded. "It'll be no problem, my darling."
Ugh, could he be any more generic?
"Fantastic. Thank you, Arnie." Sammi returned to her plate. "Tell us about your day."
"Oh, it was nothing special. I missed my girls all day." He chuckled. "Actually, Samantha, I'm here for you."
The color drained from her face. "F-for me?"
"That's right. We have a date."
"A date?" Sammi exclaimed. "I, oh, jeez. I didn't know we had a date for tonight. I would have gotten prepared." She gestured to her outfit.
"You look perfect for the occasion," he disputed. "But I'll give you twenty minutes to touch up. I'll stay here and chat with Stephanie."
She grinned. "Oh, thank you. I appreciate that. If you don't mind, can I steal her for just a minute? I need her advice on my dress."
"Go right ahead."
Sammi stood from the table and grabbed my arm. She pulled me into the bedroom with her. Double checking that he stayed at the table, she spun around and scowled at me.
"What?" I asked.
"Get your shit together," she whispered. "You're acting like a brat."
"What are you talking about?"
"I don't want to be here any more than you do but that attitude isn't going to get you out of here."
"And what will?" I folded my arms over my chest. "Pretending that I'm in love with him until he maybe lets his guard down and we can burst out of here? Great idea, Sam. We'll be here until we're fifty."
She faked a smile. "Ha. It's a better idea than bitching about everything and expecting him to eat it up."
I rolled my eyes.
"That's what I'm talking about," she said. She grabbed a random dress from the closet and held it against her. "You know what?"
"Tell me what."
"I'm done protecting you." Sammi said shortly. She pulled her shirt over her head and slid the dress on. Her skirt fell out underneath. "If you want to be a baby, you can be a baby. I'm tired of saving you every time you'll get your ass beat."
I scoffed. "Are you serious? You're choosing our captor over your own sister?"
"No, I'm choosing my life over yours for once. So go ahead," she gestured to the door. "and be a spoiled bitch, see how far it gets you."
