1: Prologue •°. *࿐

"Let's meet at the park, right now"

You mumbled under your breath, begrudgingly putting on your shoes and a hoodie over your head. It was 3 AM for fucks sake, what was so important? It had been months since he had last spoken to you, and hell... Not even a hello.

Your phone was stuffed in your pocket, as you grumpily slid the hood over your head. You opened the door, the cold air hitting your face.

"Jaehyun, the things I do for you" You muttered as you tried to blink the sleepiness away

Your steps were rather soft and slow, you had no energy or whatsoever to even bother in looking presentable. As you got closer to the park you agreed to meet, the park you always went to, you saw his slouched tall figure. His honey skin glowing underneath that dim street light, he looked handsome, as always, but your smile faded once you saw his.

His smile, the one that made his dimples pop out and his cheeks bloat cutely. The way his eyes creased and his lips turned upwards to show his perfectly white teeth. It was gone, the smile he always had when you both hung out had long disappeared from his perfectly sculpted face.

Instead, it was replaced by a sad grin and his caramel-colored eyes were now glassy with tears. The same tears that appeared to have fallen previously, staining his face and making him look red and puffy. Nonetheless, he still looked ethereal, but that wasn't what mattered. You rushed up to him, wanting to engulf him into a hug only to get pushed away.

"Jaehyun, what's wrong?" You questioned, you had no idea as to why he had pushed you away

"It's just... Has it always been this hard to decide?" He answered, almost completely ignoring your question.

"What do you mean? Why did you call me?" You said, your voice barely over a whisper.

"Because of Areum" He finally spoke, his tone coming out a bit colder than usual.

"What do I have to do with your girlfriend? You know I'm not the best at rela-" You started, not even able to finish your sentence.

"Because... She made me choose... Between you and her..." He weakly spoke, and you couldn't help but notice his voice crack.

"You really love her, don't you?" You scoffed. Numb. It was all you could feel.

"Yes but, I also love you, you're my best friend," He said, running a hand through his hair.

That was the problem. You were only his best friend. You were the one who was there for him, no matter what, even if it meant seeing him date other people who you knew weren't the ones for him.

"Then go and choose her if you really do. If you did love me as you say, you wouldn't be having to make this decision right now." You spat. Your stone-cold tone matching perfectly with your careless expression. But deep inside, you knew it hurt you.

"Y/N, You just don't understand." He shook his head as you scoffed.

"What do you want me to understand, Jaehyun? I've seen you dating this toxic girl and being ignored for months, you were only there when you needed me, but never when I needed you. I was always here, yet you still went for her. And I stayed, Jaehyun, I stayed because of you. And you're saying that I don't understand?... I understand more than what you do, I can't even believe we are having this conversation right now."

"Y/N..." He spoke but you were just too done at this point. It felt like all these bottled emotions were finally spilling out.

"No. All you say or do hurts Jaehyun, I'm just not gonna do this anymore. Go to her, but remember... I always was and will be here..." You said, before biding your most probably last goodbyes.

He was your best friend, the one you thought would be there for you when you got hurt... But ended up being the reason you felt numb. You didn't want to leave, but it was what you had to do. If you only knew... his heart longed for you as much as you did.
