Yvan and I wrestled our way to the front of the crowd awaiting the arrival of their loved ones or friends. I wanted to be the first one to spot Terry. The place was pretty noisy, with the announcements coming in every minute or so regarding the various flights arriving over the din of people chattering. Some people were preoccupied with their mobile phones while other had their earpiece shoved deeply into their ears.
'We regret to inform you that our air-conditioners have broken down. Please wait patiently while our engineers fix the problem. We apologize for the inconvenience,' an announcement resounded. Groans were heard and some people ranted. However, the effects of the break down was not immediately felt as the place was still considerably cold.
'It must have broken down because your brother is coming. I'm telling you, that guy is bad luck,' Yvan grumbled.
'You talk bad about my bro again and I'll break up with you,' I warned as I glared at him. He immediately clamped his mouth shut. I sighed. Why can't Terry and Yvan just get along?
'We are pleased to inform you that flight number 83844 has safely landed,' another announcement came. Ah....83844 is Terry's flight. I stared past the transparent glass in anticipation, looking out for Terry's figure. A man with nerdy spectacles and thick locks of black hair caught my attention. He was wearing an orange shirt and a black pair of shorts. He face lit up the moment he saw me.
'Henrietta!' He shouted as he ran up to me, lifting me in his arms and spinning me around.
'Terry!!' I squealed while engulfing him in a bear hug when he finally put me down. Yvan stood awkwardly behind us.
'Hi Yvan,' Terry spat, his voice laced with hatred. He glowered at Yvan. 'I can't believe that you and my little sis are still together. You cheat on her and I'll break all your bones.'
'Hi Terry,' Yvan greeted him back reluctantly, staring at him icily. 'If I wanted to cheat on your little sister, I would have done that the moment I met you.'
Oh damn...If I don't do anything, the two of them will really start fighting. 'My...isn't it pretty hot here?' I asked in an attempt to break them away from each other.
'I'm sorry,' Terry said, turning his attention to me.
'Yeah...its pretty hot isn't it?' Yvan said as he fanned himself with his hand.
'I said I'm sorry,' Terry repeated.
'Why are you sorry?' I asked. Maybe he realised that he and Yvan trying to pick a fight with each other was giving me a headache.
'Because I'm too hot for you,' Terry replied with a goofy grin.
'What the...,' Yvan started as he narrowed his eyes at Terry.
'Its the truth! Don't you know? I'm so hot that my mother calls me son,' Terry said before bursting into laughter. 'Get it? Sun? Son?' He stared at us expectantly.
'Ha ha ha...so funny my toes are laughing. I can't believe you are a scientist,' Yvan said, his voice layered with sarcasm. I couldn't help but smack my forehead. Terry is an amazing brother and all but his jokes are...fantastically lame.
'Oh so would you prefer a more scientific joke? Alright, then don't ever trust atoms because they make up everything,' Terry said before bursting into another round of laughter.
'I can't believe this. Why am I talking to this retard again?' Yvan sighed.
'You know what Terry? Your laughter is much more funnier than the joke,' I said, completey ignoring Yvan's comment. 'Where are you staying at?'
'Ah at a hotel somewhere near the Willow Complex. I wanted to be near you for the next three days I'm staying here,' Terry replied.
'More like keeping an eye on her, you stalker,' Yvan added.
'More like keeping an eye on you to make sure you don't do anything to her,' Terry shot back.
'What did you say? I would never harm her and she knows that!' Yvan retorted.
'And I'll probably never know whether you are telling the truth. Listen here boy, I don't trust you at all,' Terry snarled.
'They say you'll have the most trouble with your mother-in-law...but it looks like I'll be having the most trouble with the brother-in-law,' Yvan grumbled
'Who you calling brother-in-law? You aren't even married yet! Touch my sister and I'll kill you,' Terry warned.
'ENOUGH!' I shouted, not knowing what else to do to make them shut up.
'But Henrietta, why can't you see he is no good for you?' Terry whined.
'You know I'm the only one for you right?' Yvan asked as he tried to put his arm around my shoulder. Annoyed, I shrugged his arm off. His face was a picture of shock and hurt. However, I was too angry to even feel guilty. I had enough of their nonsense. Why can't they just get along already? Why must Terry be so damn overprotective sometimes? Its my life and I should have the freedom to choose my boyfriend right? A boyfriend is someone you love and trust right? If that is so,then why can't Terry trust the person I trust? And Yvan...why can't he try to be nicer to Terry?
'I'm sorry. Please don't be mad. I'll try and get along with Terry,' Yvan apologized, like as if hearing my thoughts. Immediately, I felt guilty for my earlier actions.
'Sure...thanks Yvan,' I softened. 'Come on Terry. You gotta check into your hotel right? Maybe after that the three of us could go hang out?'
Terry merely nodded. And with that the three of us made our way out.
