Artemis' POV
"Ugh, their back," I heard a disgusted voice say as Selene, Diana, and I walked into the lunchroom. "You'd think after two years, they would've understood nobody wants them!" It was Bambi, the head cheerleader, at the popular table with the football jocks. Our table was in the corner, by the stairs.
"Bambi, MUST you talk about yourself at SUCH a loud volume?" Diana asked exasperatedly, a grin appearing on her face at the same time the words came out. The students laughed ad Bambi got mad.
"Myself? Oh, no, Diana, I was talking about you and the quiet one and the whore and the underage partygoer who did my algebra in eighth grade." she smirked, thinking she had the upperhand.
"If you're looking for a whore, just look in the mirror," I spoke up. Everyone fell silent. I had never spoken in school, ever, but here I was, loud and proud.
"I'm a dancer, I can't be a whore. I too pretty," she replied making no sense.
"FYI, I dance, too, still your turn," I told her. She laughed.
"You? A dancer? You can't even stand crowds anymore since Derrick cheated on you with me," she laughed. I stepped up into her face.
"You wanna bet, Bimbo?" I asked. My friend Jaxon turned on the stereo system. I had fixed it over the summer with his help. "Tonight, I'm Loving You" by Enrique Iglesias came on.
"5, 6, 7, 8!" Bambi cried, getting the cheerleaders up and moving. They did some sick stripper move as I climbed onto a vacant table. I gestured to all of the dancers to help me show Bambi up, and they got the plea. A few guys started breakdancing, a couple of girls joined. I flipped into the middle and put all of my soul into what I was doing. Jaxon knelt on one knee, I stepped up, and flipped backwards off of him. The cheerleaders were trying to do a pyramid, but the flyer didn't want to land on a table or the floor. Bambi forced her up, and I saw what was coming before it did. The flyer started collapsing, and I caught her, falling back into a table. Everyone cheered as she got up and was fine. I reached behind my was and felt blood, so I pulled my hood up. When I stood, I saw Justin at the door, I couldn't help but smile. I ignored the stinging of my scalp and went over to hug him.
"I think you're the reason I'm braver, Bieber," I told him. My hood fell just a bit, but Selene saw the gash.
"Artemis! What happened!?" She exclaimed. I winced. Justin looked where Selene was pointing and winced, too.
"I got too friendly with a mean table," I joked. Selene had to drag me to the nurse's office, where she
cleaned it up and said I didn't need stitches, thank God.
When I got back, I saw the best sight ever. Bambi was kicked of the cheer squad!
This was the best first day of school EVER!!! I thought, snuggling into Justin's side. I was completely content.
