"Wellston School of Music

The Wellston School of Music is a private school in the middle of Wellston city consisting of the main buildings and student dormitories. The school focuses on core classes as well, but the major focus is their music program. With many choices, students can pick between Musical Theatre, Choir, Marching Band and Concert Band, and the Orchestra. The most notable of the choices is the Wellston Youth Orchestra. Which plays at several concerts and competes in high class competition.

The marching band and concert band have been undefeated for a total of twenty five consecutive years, and the orchestra for thirty five. The Orchestra is directed by the head director Vaughn, who oversees the marching band and concert bands which are directed by Darren and Keene. Being a part of the concert band automatically makes you part of the marching band, and as an orchestra member, you have the choice to join either of the bands. However, being in one of the two does not secure you a spot in the orchestra.

Tryouts are held in the summer and results are posted a month before the start of school. Students attend a virtual interview where they speak with directors Keene and Darren. If they are accepted by the two then they pass on to an in person demonstration with director Vaughn, where the student will present their skill set to the head director.

Members of the orchestra have daily practices during and after school hours. On the weekends they hold mock-concerts as a practice for the members to get used to being on a stage. The orchestra is a friendly environment where the members feel like family with one another and can often be found hanging out in the band hall after practice or finding a secluded area to practice with one another.

The theatre department-"

John sighed as he closed his laptop and fell back onto his bed. John has been playing piano since he was little and had always dreamed of being part of an orchestra. Through primary and middle school, they didn't focus on music as much as he would've liked. And New Bostin High School Band program made babies playing on the xylophone look good. So when he heard about the Wellston Youth Orchestra, he had jumped right on the website to figure out how he could get in.

Of course, that meant he would have to transfer schools, and live in the dorms with a roommate. That wasn't a big problem though, he never got along with people from New Bostin that well. The only people he'd miss were Claire, Adrion, and his dad. His dad has been the one to teach him piano and on cold rainy nights, they would sit together and play all night long. Claire and Adrion both played Clarinet, and he loved to play with them, don't get him wrong.

But they weren't as committed as John. John wanted to do something with the music, Claire and Adrion only played for fun. And while John did play for fun as well, he still wanted a purpose for his playing.

John stares at his laptop with sad eyes. He had completed the online interview a couple days ago and was waiting on an email from the school. Of course, it had been three days and he hasn't received word back that would ask him to come and play for the director. John wasn't one to lose hope, but it did hurt thinking about how might not get accepted. The boy hugged as he rolled on to his stomach. Even if he did get to do a demonstration, he would still have to wait months for results to be posted and even then, he might not be on the list.

John groaned burying his face in his pillow. This was exhausting.

"John? Can we come in?" A knock on his door pulled his head away from his pillow as he grumbled. "Sure." The door creaked open as Claire and Adrion walked into the boys room. "Still waiting?" The blonde asked causing John to burying his face again. "Maybe your interview was so good, they had to take extra time to make a decision." John released a noise that likely came from the pits of hell into his blanket before he sat up. "Or maybe it was so bad that they said "not this one" and moved on to the next person."

Claire and Adrion shared a glance before they joined John on the bed. "Hey, there's a lot of people auditioning you know? That's a really good school and their music program is the best around." Claire mentioned. John grumbled resting his chin in his hand. "Plus, how many students attend that school?" Adrion asked. John sighed, "the school accepts high school and college students. That's why it's so big, they have to teach a large amount of students. That's also the reason for the dorms as well, to keep track of everyone. I think high school and college dorms are on opposite sides of the campus though."

"Exactly-" Claire snapped, "there's so many people auditioning John and only the best get in. I'm not surprised it's taking a couple days for an answer." John groaned before burying his hands in his hair. "But they're usually so quick with answers. Like, I emailed them before asking if they had a culinary class and they answered me within minutes." Adrion shook his head, "of course a simple question about class would be answered fast. But we're talking about the music program, that's what the school is known for John!"

John whined shaking his head. "I'm just stressed out. I really like this school." Claire smiled at the boy, "we know John. We believe you'll get in, you just gotta keep your hopes up." John looked at his friend before sighing. "Yeah I guess you're right." Claire chuckled. "Hey, how about we get some boba to take your mind off of things?" Adrion suggested. John smiled slightly, "yeah I guess we could." The three stood to leave the room when a ping sounded from Johns laptop. Johns breath stopped and he took a nervous glance at Claire and Adrion. They both nodded enthusiastically and pushed John forward back to the computer.

John took a deep breath opening the laptop once more and signing into his email.

Johns eyes widened as he quickly clicked on the email, his lip beginning to tremble as he read the document.

John,

We have taken your interview into consideration and would like to invite you to our campus to perform a live auditions tomorrow evening. I will be on campus from 4:00-8:00, if you could come during that time frame it would be wonderful. You said you played piano, there will be a piano set up in the audition room tuned and prepped for you when you arrive.

I look forward to hearing you play,

Head Director Vaughn

John reread the words over and over again before he released a girly squeal. Claire and Adrion looked at him and shared his excitement as he stood and ran over to hug them. "I get to audition!" He cried feeling a few tears slip down his cheeks. "John that's wonderful!" Claire added and squeezed him tight. John smiles as he friends rocked back and forth. He had a chance to get into the orchestra.

He was going to get into Wellston Orchestra
