Claire and Adrion looked down at their friend who was flopped face first into his pillow and screaming his head off. "It can't be that bad." Claire tried to say. John pulled his head up and glared at the girl. "I can't?! He didn't even let me audition. My practicing was so bad that there was no way he wanted to hear the actual piece I had prepared. But sure, it can't be that bad!" He shouted before burying his face again. Claire opened her mouth to speak, but closed it finding she had nothing left to say.
"I'm sorry John." She mumbled. Both her and Adrion knew how much he wanted to get into that school, so it wasn't a surprise that this was tearing the other boy up so much. "Will you still go check the results at the end of summer?" Adrion asked. "What's the point? I already know my name won't be on there. Why would I wan't to hurt myself even more?" John sighed before sitting up. "I really wanted to go there." He breathed. "We know John." Claire said sitting down next to the boy.
"You still don't know for sure." She began, ignoring the glare that John had sent toward her. "I think we should still go check, there's always a chance that you did get in." John groaned falling back onto his bed. He knew Claire and Adrion were just trying to be optimistic and cheer him up, he had a bad habit of only seeing the negative side of things. "How about we just enjoy the rest of our summer? Let's try not to think of the audition until the time comes to check the results." Adrion sugested. John shrugged, "I guess. I mean, I can't spend my whole summer moping about it." Claire beamed, "there ya go John! That's the spirit." John hummed before facing his pillow again. "But I can spend a few days." Claire huffed but she didn't bother him.
As long as he didn't spend his whole summer upset then he would be okay.
~Let it Ring~
The months passed and John found himself enjoying his summer with his friends. The audition had moved to the back of his mind and he was able to focus more on having fun then being depressed. Eventually the day of the results came and John was being brought back to the school to check the postings. He brought Claire and Adrion along for support, but he probably would have brought them no matter the circumstances. This was a big moment, and even though he had lost hope at the beginning of the summer, he was starting to regain that hope as they pulled into the large school parking lot.
"This school is huge!" Adrion exclaimed. Claire was staring with her mouth agape and eyes blown wide. John laughed as his friends reactions, despite him having a similar one the first time he came to the school. The boy gulped looking at the large crowd of people. They were all surrounding one wall which was the one that was just outside the music hall doors. Those doors were locked, he gathered, after watching a couple people pull on the doors in frustration. No doubt they didn't make the cut as they had tears rolling down their faces or cheeks blown red in anger.
John directed his attention back to the wall. It would be impossible for him to get through the sea of people if he didn't know what exactly he was looking for. So he started looking for people coming away from the wall to ask for help. Of course, he tried avoiding the ones who were crying, along with the ones that we angry. Then his eyes landed on the purple haired girl he had seen at the audition. She was coming back from the wall stone faced, John couldn't tell if she had made it or not. He took a breathe before approaching her as she came his way.
"Um...excuse me?" He called. She turned her head toward him and stopped walking. "How are the results..uh...like assigned? Like you know how it displays a name? Or is it in alphabetical order?" He mentally cursed himself for stumbling over his words, but the girl seemed to understand him anyway. "They're arranged in alphabetical order. On the paper it will say your name, the grade you are entering into, whether you transferred or are a current student, your instrument, and whether you got in or not." John nodded, "thank you!" He said receiving a nod in return before the two split ways.
Claire and Adrion watched from the car as John ran toward the mass of people. "Oh I hope he gets in." John's father announced. "Me too, I can't stand to see him so depressed again." Claire added.
John bit his tongue as he came among the crowd. Some of them were way taller than him and some were just a few inches shorted. The boy took a deep breath before pushing his way through. "Excuse me...pardon me...sorry...coming through...watch your head...sorry." He mumbled as he finally made his way to the front. 'Okay "J" got to find the J's' He frowned seeing he was standing in front of the names "M-O." John huffed pushing through the crowd once more, searching for his name. "H through J!" He shouted as he found the paper. He curled his hands into balls as his eyes scanned across the paper.

John covered his mouth to retain a scream. Hot tears began to roll down his cheeks as he choked back a sob. 'I did it. I really did it.' John swallowed and wiped off his face before pushing back through the crowd toward his friends. "Oh no, he's crying." Claire said before her and Adrion took off toward their friend. The three slammed together into crushing hug, causing John to finally allow his sobs to escape his body. "Oh John..." Claire whimpered. But before either could say anything to comfort him, he looked up with a smile. "I got in." He whispered, barely audible despite how close the three were.
Claire and Adrion smiled before Claire squealed jumping up and down. John laughed at her excitement before he broke and did the same. "I got in!" He shouted louder this time and hugged the two again with enough force to send them all to the ground. William watched proudly from the side, glad to see his son happy once more. John cried, allowing all the pent of frustration and doubt to leave his body and be replaced with the happiness and excitement of what was yet to come.
