The lunch bell pulled me out of the trance I was in since the class had started. My calculus teacher had been going over various equations and sums for an hour, but my mind had only been on one thing since homeroom. I got out of my seat so fast the chair I was sitting on almost fell to the ground. I left the room and turned right, running straight into someone. I looked up from my feet coming face to face with Jax, looking at me expectantly, as if I was meant to know why a goofy smile spread across his face.

"What? You passed the monthly STI test? Good for you man, protection is key." I said smiling back at him.

"For your information asshole I passed with flying colours, but that's not it."

He continued to make intense eye contact with me, crossing his arms over his chest and widening his eyes waiting until I finally clued on. He wanted to see Bella.

"Look um, I may have left some information out about Bella." I said quietly, trying to avoid eye contact. Jax was my best friend and even though I knew he would never judge me or my mate my anxiety was still present.

"Okay..." He said, gesturing for me to continue.

"She is a human. My mate is a human."

"Oh no way! The new girl? Colby said the new girl was a total hottie!"

I looked at him totally stunned, one half of me was ready to fight him for saying such things about my mate but on the other hand I was relieved the human statement hadn't been too much of a shock.

"Why would it make any difference though? She is your mate and that is all that matters. Right?"

"Right." I said with conviction as we turned the corner and walked in the direction of the cafeteria.

"Let's go check her out." Jax said excitedly, clapping his hands together and adding a skip to his step.

Instantly my hand shot out in front of his chest and stopped him.

"There will be no checking out my mate." I said with a slight growl slipping through my teeth.

"Oh please, you know what I mean, don't be so grumpy." He said as he pushed my hand away and we continued to walk.

As soon as we were outside the cafeteria the only thing on my mind was my mate. I could smell her everywhere. The air was thick with the scent of vanilla and roses. It even covered the usual scents that inhabited the cafeteria. We pushed open the doors and made our way over to our group, Colby and Hayden the twins, Jenny and Bianca.

Bianca was trying to grab hold of my arm, whispering something pointless in my ear. My focus wasn't on anyone at this table as I shook Bianca's bony fingers off my arm. My eyes were constantly scanning the room, looking for Bella.

A small distant laugh brushed passed my ears and I turned my head towards the back of the cafeteria, there she was my Bella. A smile on her face as she laughed at something the two other girls at the table were saying. Her nose scrunched as she lifted up a piece of the lasagne that was sitting on her plate. It was enough to make my heart melt.

Jax hit my arm and motioned his head towards Bella, raising his eyebrows in question. I nodded and turned to look back at my mate, her curly black hair shining in the florescent lights overhead. It took all my strength to not run straight over to her and have her in my arms, feeling her as close as possible, even though I had only known her for less than 48 hours my wolf was getting antsy, on the verge of being released and claiming what he believed was wholeheartedly his. It didn't help that when I looked to Jax his eyes were glued to my mates every move, with a gaze that I had seen my best friend wear before. In all our years of friendship I had never wanted to shift and fight him more than I had in this very moment.

"Wow man, she is really pretty. Congratulations." He said sincerely, his eyes still lingering on Bella.

"What! I am just stating a fact, don't get your panties in a twist. She's gorgeous, your pups are going to be beautiful." He said with a wink.

"Pups?" Bianca said curiously, appearing beside me, her arm trying to snake around my waist. Everyone within earshot turned their heads toward us, the mention of pups grabbing everyone's attention.

"Um, yeah. Someone in our pack might be expecting." I said hopefully convincingly enough, not wanting to let everyone know about my mate just yet.

I never took my eyes off Bella as I sat down and accepted the water bottle Hayden thrust in my direction. The conversation around the table revolved around Jason Reid and a party that he was throwing on the weekend. His parties were famous for getting out of hand, scaling from a small house fire to someone being outed as pregnant a few weeks after.

Halfway through lunch the conversation stopped interesting me and I stood up and made my way over to the one person who had been on my mind all morning.
