"Hey, where are we going anyways?" Thomas called out as he stumbled awkwardly over a fallen branch. He had been following behind Addison and Minho through the woods with no idea what they were up to.
Minho turned back to Thomas with a smirk, "You'll see."
"Ya sticks coming?" Addison called over her shoulder, her head tilted back at the pair who had been stopped a ways away. She had then turned again and continued leading the way, a slight bounce to her steps. The girl still hadn't been able to shake her excitement after the gathering. For once, she felt a step closer toward her sisters.
Addy was the first inside the map room. She had rounded the table and leant on her elbows, admiring the replica as she had done many times before. She then lifted her gaze to Thomas, who had been frozen in the doorway with a curious, yet puzzled, expression written on his face.
"It's the maze. All of it." Minho explained as he came to the girl's side, brushing shoulders slightly as he too had leaned over the table on his hands.
"What do you mean 'all of it?' I thought you were still mapping it." Thomas asked as he entered the room before he pearled over the table in confusion.
"There's nothing left to map. I've run every inch of it myself. Every cycle. Every pattern." Minho informed.
"My maze is identical. That's where I've gone, looking over their maps. We hoped that if I could find something different it could lead to something. But every last inch is identical." The girl added.
"If there was a way out, we would have found it by now." Minho finished.
"Why haven't you told anyone this?" Thomas let out.
"It was Alby's call. People needed to believe we had a chance of getting out. But maybe now... we have a real chance." Minho said as he handed Thomas the griever metal thing.
"Take a look at this." He moved around the table and pointed at the stones with numbers "About a year ago, we started exploring these outer sections. We found these numbers printed on the walls. Sections 1 through 8. See, the way it works, is every night, when the maze changes... it opens up a new section. So today, Section 6 was open. Tomorrow, it will be 4, then 8, then 3. The pattern always stays the same."
"But what's so special about section seven?" Thomas asked as he looked down at the piece of metal in his hands. Addison's attention had been ensnared by the mess she had made in the corner of the room.
"I don't know." Minho responded.
"Maybe I do." Addison spoke up, her eyes slightly dazed. Both boys had turned to her in surprise. They watched the entranced girl shuffle toward the corner of the room and picked up random pieces of paper.
