Scarlett's P.O.V.
Twins my ass, I thought to myself as I got my materials out of my backpack just as class began. One of the girls that were at the ice cream shop yesterday came over and sat by me.
“Hey Scarlett, you don’t mind if I sit here right? I don’t know anyone else in this class.” Her voice was shakey and I felt bad, so I just nodded.
She let out a deep breath and I realized she was nervous, not because of me, but because of the class.
“So…” I began and her shoulders relaxed. “How’s it goin’?”
“You’re from New Jersey, aren’t you?” She asked me and I smirked.
“That obvious?”
“Kind of. Or I’m just ridiculously good with accents.”
“Maybe both.”
We both laughed until the teacher finally came in and clapped his hands so we would stop talking.
“Students, as requested par superintendent, I’m going to introduce to you the three transfers. Michel here is from Brazil, Jacob is from France and…Jace…” Each student waved to the class as he called them out, but one was missing.
“Shit, sorry.” A guy with an Australian accent tripped inside, holding onto his skateboard like it was a baby.
“Late on the first day of class, congratulations.” The teacher muttered.
Jace smirked and chuckled to himself, taking off his gray beanie and ruffling his hair.
“Please take a seat, Jace.” The teacher told him and Jace put his skateboard on the ground and road it down the steps to the lecture hall seating.
“Please don’t skateboard in the class, Jace.”
“Lighten up, teach.” Jace joked and walked down the row until he finally took a seat on the other side of me.
“He must have a stick up his ass.” He loudly whispered to me and I burst out laughing. Noelle kind of looked over with a displeased look on her face but continued on writing in her notebook as the teacher started the lesson.
Jace and I talked a bit, mostly him being really funny and me laughing. He was like me, he went with the flow.
“Excuse me, but some of us here are actually trying to learn.” Noelle snapped and there was a round of ooh’s that echoed throughout the classroom.
His facial features softened after he leaned over the desk and turned his head past me to see who was looking at him. “Sorry, I’ll stop.” He apologized to her and she looked at him confused but went back to her notes again.
I looked back at him and he was texting on his cellphone, so I decided now would be a good time to start taking my own notes.
When class was over, I said goodbye to Jace and started walking off when Noelle called after me. I didn’t want to be rude even though I had somewhere to be, so I turned around.
“Are you free tomorrow? I don’t have class and maybe-“
“Sure. Just, here.” I took out a pen and wrote my number on her hand. “Text me the information.” She nodded and Jace put a hand on her shoulder, saying excuse me as he walked by us. Her face was flushed and I couldn’t help but laugh.
