Chapter two! Oh dear…I’m just gonna say now, that I felt so awkward typing this, so…yeah.
I sniffled as I glanced up, and was met with red eyes. “Are you alright, my dear?” He asked, offering me a tissue. I took it and blew my nose, before looking back up at him. “Yeah, I’m fine. That was really stupid of me, though.” What caused me to do that?
“On the contrary, that was an excellent performance.” I blinked a few times. “Oh…thanks. Y’know, I never caught your name.” “Sebastian Michaelis. You are in my class, yes?” I twitched slightly, which didn’t seem to go unnoticed. “Yeah, I guess so.”
Really long, awkward silence.
“You are so very broken, but no one cares to notice.” I looked up at Mr. Michaelis, my head tilted. “What?” “It was nothing. Come, your friend is waiting for you.” He held his hand out and I accepted it, pulling myself up.
When we got back to the parking lot, I was ambushed by a blur that was Amber. “Stop running out on me! I was so worried! But, hey, that was great!” It took me a minute to process everything, before I answered. “Sorry, I just got a bit scared, everyone looking at me like that and all. Didn’t mean to worry you, and thanks for the compliment.” She smiled before dragging me to the edge of the lot, where the boys were waiting with a kickball.
“Saturday, that was pretty cool. Didn’t take you as a Shakespeare girl.” Nick commented, bouncing the ball on his knee. “Yeah, well, I finally got around to looking up random Hamlet lines.” I shrugged as I walked over and kicked the ball over to Amber. “Keep away!” I exclaimed, running after my friend. “No fair!”
…
Ten minutes or so later, the boys had finally gotten the ball back, so we were chasing after them. I glanced around to try and find who had the kickball, when I spotted Ciel sitting on the sidewalk. Quickly changing direction, I ran over to him. “Hey, why aren’t you playin’? Amber and I could use some help.”
In truth, we were doing fine, even against four boys.
Ciel looked up from his book, rather unamused. “Your “game” seems rather pointless. One team gets the ball, but then what? The other tries and gets it back?” I blinked a few times. He did have a point. “Well, yeah it’s pointless, but it’s fun.” He raised an eyebrow, beckoning for me to continue.
“It’s kinda, like, a team building exercise or somethin’. It’s teamwork! I mean, look at Ambs and I. It’s two girls against four boys, and yet we still manage to keep the ball away from the boys. Most of the time.”
“You are more agile than they are, giving you an advantage.” Another great point. Amber took dance, and I was in gymnastics for a while, so we were rather nimble.
It kind of freaked me out how Ciel could tell all of this just by watching us. Something was wrong with this boy…I just didn’t know what. I sat down beside him, and when I did, he closed his book and looked at me. “I was wondering, and forgive me if I’m intruding, but why do you wear that eye patch?” “I was in an accident when I was younger.” He answered rather monotone, while bringing a hand to his right eye. “I see…”
It must have been awkward silence day, ‘cause twice I had gotten caught in a long, awkward silence.
And then…!
“Pardon me, but may I borrow him for a moment?” I turned around, where Mr. Michaelis was standing. Ciel got up and left with him.
Being the curious person I am, I silently followed them. “And where do you think you’re going?!” I jumped at Amber’s voice, causing me to almost fall. She caught me right in time, though. “Were you going to spy on them?” “No!” “You suck at lying.” I slinked down slightly, which made Amber laugh. “Well, what are we waiting for? C’mon, or they might finish before we get there!” “Eh?” Amber dragged me behind the school building, and we both stood perfectly still.
