Just When I Thought Things Couldn't Get Worse

“I’m telling you, I know what I saw!” “Okay, tell me what exactly you think you saw.” I began explaining to Amber what had happened the previous afternoon. It was about 11:19 at night, and I couldn’t get any sleep, so I decided to call Amber. “And then Mr. Michaelis, who I don’t even think is a real teacher, so I’m just gonna call him Sebastian-” “Even if he isn’t a real teacher, he’s still our teacher. I think calling him by his first name-” “When we’re not in school I’ll call him Sebastian, and I suggest you do too.” “Why?” “I don’t know…just ‘cause.”

Amber sighed, before agreeing. “Okay. You were saying?” I finished explaining, and I’m pretty sure Amber blinked a few times, ‘cause there was a long pause.

A really long one.

“Ambs?” “…Sorry, my mom came to check on me.” Of course. “Anywho, that does sound really weird. How about this; I’ll come home with you Friday and stay the weekend. That will give us two days to figure this out.” “I have a feeling that won’t be enough time.” “Good point…if we don’t figure it out by next Monday; we could meet at the library after school. That sound good?” “Mmhmm.” “Good. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” “Ttyl.” We both hung up.

I put my cell back onto my desk and wrapped my blanket around me. “This whole thing seems so familiar…I just don’t know why…” With that thought, I drifted off to sleep.

Time Skip-That Friday

(Bless your soul!)
Bless your soul, you've got your head in the clouds,
You made a fool out of me,
And, boy, you're bringing me down,
You made my heart melt, yet I'm cold to the core,
But rumour has it I'm the one you're leaving her for,

Rumour has it
Rumour has it
I groaned and threw the covers off. “Yeah, yeah, I heard ya!” Quickly moving to my armoire, I grabbed my uniform and threw it on, before grabbing my brush. I sang along with the radio as I brushed my hair.

All of these words whispered in my ear,
Tell a story that I cannot bear to hear,
Just 'cause I said it, it don't mean that I meant it,
People say crazy things,
Just 'cause I said it, don't mean that I meant it,
Just 'cause you heard it,

Rumour has it [x14]
But rumour has it he's the one I'm leaving you for.

By the time the song ended, I had already finished brushing my hair. I went to put my brush down, when my eyes landed on a small box I found in my locker the day before. I opened it and pulled out the choker. It looked oddly familiar, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Instead, I put it on and made my way down the hall.

“Mmm, what smells so good?” “Eggs, toast and…bacon.” My mom replied. “Bacon?” I asked, and if I was a dog, my ears would have perked up. My mom laughed and pointed her spatula at me. “I’m having a hard time figuring out who’s the dog, and who’s my daughter.” “Woof.” I “barked”. The honey-colored dog beside me walked over to my mom and sat in front of her, banging her tail on my leg in the process.

I gasped. “Mutiny!” She looked back at me and barked, her tail wagging. I laughed and went to pick her up. “Wow, girl, you need to eat more. You’re getting really light.” At that moment, she licked my face, causing me to laugh even more. “Yeah, I’m sure you like the sound of more food.” I glanced up at my mom. “Does she feel light to you?” I asked, handing her over to my mother.

“Oh! No, she weighs the same.” My mom put Bridgette down, then went back over to the stove. “Huh…weird.” I grabbed a plate and filled it up with eggs, bacon and toast, before making my way over to the table, where my dad was doing something or other with one of his rifles.
