Cheryl's pov:

It's been a regular Wednesday so far, it's only 10:30 in the morning but it's been normal. My mom trying to knock me down with mean words. Then there's Toni just.. being Toni.

"How was your night?" Toni asked from beside me.

We were in biology and as per usual, Toni wasn't paying attention to the teacher, but to me instead.

"It was fine" I mumbled, writing down the notes on the bored.

"That's good"

"Miss Topaz please stop talking" the teacher said, almost desperate considering she talks everyday any chance she gets.

"I could definitely try Mr. K" Toni smiled.

I had to admit, her smile was pretty cute.

___________

"Whatcha doing?" Toni asks me.

It's lunch time and I'm in the place I usually am, the courtyard. It's pretty peaceful out here, there's not that many students that sit out here especially on cloudy days like this. I sit up against this big tree. The only thing that isn't peaceful here is Toni. I don't understand why she would rather bother me than be with her thousands of friends.

She's leaning over my shoulder at the moment, watching me.

"I'm drawing" I say back, almost in a whisper.

I like to be considerated when I draw, but that's hard when someone is talking to you every five seconds.

"That's cool. What are you drawing?"

I sighed, knowing this could go on until the end of our lunch break.

"A lion, Toni"

"Ooh, why a lion?"

"Why not a lion?"

"Good point"

She looked around and up at the tree before looking back at me.

"You know..."

I waited for her to continue, but when she didn't I looked at her.

"What?"

"Your really beautiful" she smiled.

I felt myself blush. I didn't know why I was blushing, I didn't like Toni. She was just a weird, annoying, but somehow popular girl. I never thought of having any actual attraction towards her.

"Thanks"

I went back to my drawing, until Toni grabbed my notebook out of under the sketch book I was drawing in.

"Hey! Wha-"

I stopped myself, watching her write something down on a smaller piece of paper she had ripped out of the book. When she was done, she handed it to me.

"Y-your number?"

"Mhm"

"Why?"

"I don't know, just because? Feel free to call me whenever you want, even if you don't have a reason too"

And with that, she was off the ground and walking back towards the school entrance.

___________

After school I was sitting on the roof, thinking about everything. Everyone else was either at home doing homework or hanging out with friends. But not me. I was alone. I was deeply depressed, mostly because of my home life. My father left my mother and I when I was three years old. She's always told me it was my fault. I never wanted to believe her.. but it's hard not too.

Tears started rushing down my cheeks, as my thoughts took over my brain. I can't do it anymore, I don't think I can hold on to anything else. Sniffing, I stood up and walked to the edge. The wind was blowing more than usual. I almost let my thoughts take over completely, until I thought about her. I reached into my pocket and took out that small folded up piece of paper. I remembered what Toni had told me earlier.

"Feel free to call me whenever you want, even if you don't have a reason too"

Sighing deeply, I stepped back from the edge and pulled my phone out. I dialed the number quickly. After the second ring, her soft voice came through the phone.

"Hello?"

"T-Toni?"

"Cheryl?"

"I-I really n-need you.."

Toni's pov:

I was on my way to Sweetwater River, Cheryl called me and told me what she was thinking about doing, I swear my heart almost stopped. She said we couldn't meet at her house and to meet her at the River instead. I don't know what I would do if I lost her.

"Cheryl?!"

I was at the river after driving fifteen minutes from my trailer. I ran to the edge of the river and looked around.

"Cheryl?"

"O-over here" came a small voice.

I looked to my right to see Cheryl sitting on a large rock, knees tucked into her chest. I ran over to her and climbed the rock, kneeling beside her.

"Hey"

She looked up at me than burst into tears. I scooped her up and hugged her as tight as I could, never wanting to let go.

"Shhh, your okay"

"T-Toni I almost-"

"I know, I know, but guess what?"

"W-what?"

"I'm right here, and I'm not going anywhere"
