"What the hell was that?!" Yoongi shouted, the words coming out in short breaths as he tried to recover from their run to the school bus.
"I don't know," Seokjin spoke in a shaky voice, eyes trained on the wheels and the tarred road that stretched before him, his back tensed nervously.
"Zombies," Kim Taehyung whispered to himself.
Yoongi had always thought the apple haired, bright eyed boy was a bit weird. But no one could deny that this was the only plausible explanation for the things that attacked them.
It was supposed to be another boring day at camp, all the seniors wishing they could just go home. But these creatures came out of absolutely nowhere. They barely escaped with their teeth, all ten of them. Their classmates and teachers weren't so fortunate.
"It had no eyes," Jeon Jungkook muttered to himself but loud enough so some could hear, "They had no eyes,"
It was terrifying enough, Yoongi thought, that these things were feeding on flesh. But they also had no eyes, absolutely none. Empty sockets for where they should've been. And they has these weird pores all over their skin where maggot-like creatures maneuvered in and out of. It was disgusting.
They walked, although it was more of a stumble, to the first human they could find who happened to be their P.E teacher, Mr. Wu. It didn't help that there were so many seniors that three or four of these monsters got lost in the crowd and began devouring. It took only number of minutes for those they had infected to find victims of their own.
It was all very gruesome. They had the blood stains on their uniforms to prove it. Only ten of them had got out, out of a class of about fifty. That was something.
Yoongi clutched unto Hoseok with all of his might, eyes on the designated driver Seokjin who looked as if he might've passed out at any given moment.
Namjoon, a few rows back, constantly tapped on his phone to the point where it got annoying.
"What're you doing?" Park Jimin, another senior asked, wide brown eyes staring directly at Namjoon.
Namjoon only looked up for a brief moment before going back to his phone. "If something like this is happening, the government has to know, right? I'm searching for stuff like safety protocols,"
Yoongi snorted. Not because it wasn't a good idea but for the fact that the words safety protocol: stay alive filtered in through his mind. Seokjin's hands drummed on the steering wheel in nervousness and for a brief second, Yoongi worried if he might crash them from the stress.
"Aha!" yelled Namjoon as he clicked on something and increased his volume so they could all hear.
It appeared to be a video but Yoongi didn't turn, preferring to listen to the audio instead.
"And what are the safety measures you have for the nation, Mr. President?"
"Well," the gruff voice of the president began," We don't know just what these things are or where they came from but they've been plaguing our cities for three days now and multiplying by the second. A mandatory lockdown will commence effectively without further notice. Our best scientists are currently in Chaehong lab working tirelessly for a cure. However in the mean time, citizens are advised to stay inside, lock all the doors and make as little noise as possible. We're aware these things are attracted to sound and smell,"
"Are there any known symptoms of the virus?"
"Ah, yes. It includes firsthand symptoms of the flu: coughing, sneezing, migraines which will then escalate to a nosebleed, pencil sized pores appearing on the skin where these Parasites emerge to feed on their Hosts. They appear to liquidate the eyes to rid it of optic sense and then they lay eggs in the empty sockets before proceeding to the brain through the ears to control their mindless Hosts. All this takes less than thirty five minutes after which comes death and reanimation. We have found that the main goal of the Parasite is to reproduce hence the infection of other potential hosts,"
"Is there a name of the virus, Mr. President?"
"Yes. Dokkam-157. Any more questions?"
"How long do you think it will take for the situation to be tackled?"
"I cannot give a time estimate but as I said, there will be a mandatory lockdown, food items will be delivered to citizens. Everyone is advised to stay inside and if they catch sight of these hosts, to call immediately the Seoul National Pandemic number at 0034. Thank you and may god save us all,"
"Mr. President, Mr. President-"
The video abruptly cut off and everyone looked to Namjoon who shook his head, "No signal," he simply said.
It was no wonder. After all, they were in a green oasis with the only thing other than the trees being the road.
Namjoon stared at his phone weirdly. "Guys," he said, "this was posted four days ago,"
Suddenly a tense silence descended on all ten of them as they allowed Namjoon's words and their present situation to sink in.
"What the hell?! How did we not know this was happening?" Yoongi screeched.
Although everyone already knew the answer. They were entrapped in camping grounds, they'd be lucky if they even saw a bar of signal. Besides that, they weren't even supposed to be with their phones anyway. It was a strict order from the teachers and most of them had their phones confiscated while, at present, they left their device when they fled the massacre to make it to the school bus. Yoongi looked down at Hoseok who'd been quiet all through the ride and gently stroked the back of his neck.
Namjoon began walking around the bus, phone above his head as he searched for the signal.
"I can't believe this," Sonya began from her seat in the middle with Jimin, "What did they say were the symptoms again?"
"I think just the usual flu at first before, like, a nosebleed," Taehyung relayed his attentiveness.
"And then pores open up in your skin and maggots come out - oh god, I don't even want to think about it," Cha Won shook his head, a grimace present on his face.
"It takes thirty five minutes to turn," Jungkook whispered with a shudder.
"Where even are we going?" Minho directed his question at Seokjin who was gripping the wheel so hard, his knuckles had long turned white.
"I don't know, okay?" Seokjin replied, glancing at him through the rear view mirror. "Just far away from here,"
"What about our families?" Jimin inquired, running a hand through his hair stressfully.
"We'll figure it out, we just need to get out of here," Hoseok finally spoke in a small voice, the initial shock of everything not fully wearing off. That much was evident in the way he gripped Yoongi.
The bus was once again absorbed in a tense silence as all that was heard were Namjoon's footsteps as he continuously searched for signal. Yoongi tried to ignore his racing heart and shaking hands as he stared at the trees whip past the bus with how fast Seokjin was driving.
All of a sudden, the bus came to a stop.
"Guys," Seokjin whispered in a shaky voice, staring out of the windshield, "Look,"
He very much had reason to be shaken for they stared at what remained of their precious capital. Dilapidated buildings and smoke filled sky. It was void of humans, cars with bloody windshields lined the street. It was a waste dump and nothing like they had passed a week ago.
But that wasn't what they were staring at.
There were a hoard of Hosts, way too many to count. They blocked the road and they were coming straight at them.
