As I was lifted into the air, I remember being blinded by this consuming white light. I heard a loud noise like thunder against my skull, and after that, it was dark, just dark.

“Are you going to eat breakfast?” His mom turned her head to him as she placed the coffee pot back on the burner and handed him a tumblr full of coffee.

“Sorry, I forgot there was a club meeting this morning.” He scratched the back of his head nervously.

His mom pinched his cheek hard and ruffled his hair, smiling as if he were the sun and she was just a mere sunflower. Her smile seemed to depend on him, and Hendery thought she was the most precious thing in the world.

“Ohhh my little Hendery is all grown up.”

“Mommmm” He groaned and slung his bag over his shoulder. “I promise I will be back for lunch.” He smiled.

His mom always worried about him, always asking if he was eating right,
“You’re too skinny!” she’d say. Her dedication to her son was very admirable, his friends would even say her caring nature was her greatest charm

“Alright.” She sighed jokingly. “See you later!”

As he was walking down the sidewalk he felt something was off. It was a half mile walk to the bus stop, so encountering problems wasn’t common for the short distance, but he couldn’t help but feel like he was being watched.

“Hello???” He turned around

Nothing.

He sighed and tried to shake off the feeling, turning around and continuing to the bus stop. Due to his paranoia he began noticing the odd silence he wasn’t used to. On his 7:00AM walks there were usually cars of parents going to work, dropping their kids off at school, people scurrying to get breakfast at the local cafes. As he looked around he noticed not just an absence of cars, but an absence of people.

He shrugged it off and began walking faster.

‘I’m just paranoid…’ He thought.

As he got closer to the bus stop, a sudden rush of cars was flooding the streets, and people were walking briskly down the sidewalks. The populous street seemed out of place for that morning

‘I could have sworn it was not this loud…’ He thought and looked around, but decided to deny his own thoughts and approached the bus stop, sitting down on the bench.

“Hey!” his friend Sicheng entered the music clubroom.

Hendery is always the first one there, so he always sets the tables up and lays snacks, coffee, and breakfast food out on the long table for everyone.

“Good morning Win.” Hendery nodded to him without moving his eyes from his current task, sorting through their little music library to the side of the room.

“Did you hear about the UFO sightings yesterday?” Sicheng sat down in a chair just in the middle of the table facing Hendery’s back.

“No, where?”

“Somewhere in Anyang I think.”

Hendery scoffed at that. He didn’t really believe in things like UFO sightings, but he didn’t necessarily rule out their existence. He thought it would be stupid for aliens to examine a stupid planet such as Earth, what would they get from it? The tea on the latest celebrity scandals? The secret sex life between Vladimir Putin and Harry Styles?
