Akaashi didn't know how he managed to get into the situation he was in. In a crowded room, with a bunch of people he didn't know, and three dozen or so tables for two littered around the room.
Let's rewind, shall we?
4 hours earlier.
Akaashi was stretched out on his couch, enjoying his day off, when he got a phone call from his close friend.
"Oh... it's just you, Kuroo." (A/N I just want to let y'all know, that my iPad tried to autocorrect "Kuroo" to "Kurd"😂)
"Is that any way to treat your best friend?"
"Why did you call me?"
"Jeez, ok. I was wondering, cuz, ya know, you never get out of your house, if you wanted to go to this Valentine's Day speed date thing?"
Akaashi winced, he had totally forgotten today was Valentine's Day. Hmm, that's probably why I got today off, considering it's a Thursday... he thought to himself.
"Hellooooo? Earth to Akaashi! You still there bud?"
"Hmm? Oh, yeah, sure I'll go."
"Great! I'll pick you up at 7:30."
"Hm, sounds good."
Akaashi hung up and tilted his head back, resting it against the arm of his couch. Damn, why did I agreed this? I don't even like crowds. Especially crowds of strangers. Akaashi sighed. He checked his watch, 3:34 pm... I have a little time. Akaashi relaxed again, resting his head against the couch once more. He closed his eyes, letting his mind wander, reflecting on the past week...
Crap.
Akaashi sprung off of the couch and grabbed his coat. He slipped on his shoes and grabbed the keys to his apartment, locking the door on his way out. Akaashi cursed himself for forgetting something so important. He sped walked down the stairs to the lobby of his apartment complex. He approached the counter and mentally told himself to not sound like a total prick when talking to man at the counter.
"H-hey, I'm here to pick up a package for Akaashi Keiji?"
"Oh... yeah we just got one for him." The man turned around and rummaged around in a cabinet until he finally turned back around with a box about the size of a volleyball, except, well, it was a cube, not a sphere. Akaashi thanked the man and started the short walk back up stairs to his apartment. He closed the door behind him and eagerly tore off the tape on the box and lifted the flaps of cardboard, revealing a bunch of bubble rap and packing peanuts.
He reached into the box to find a jacket neatly folded and rapped in plastic. He unrapped it and took in the "new clothing" smell. It was a dark navy blue, thick, zip-up jacket, with a second layer under that connected to a soft hoodie. (A/N lmao now that I think about it, I'm kinda describing Iwaizumi's jacket when they show him and Oikawa during the Shiratorizawa match😂🤭) He tried it on for size and relished in the warm, comfortable feeling he got while wearing it. Akaashi decided to keep the jacket on and he would just wear what he was wearing right now to the speed date thing.
Akaashi got up and wandered around his apartment, ate a bag of chips, watched a few episodes of a show he knew he would never finish. He snapped off the television and got up again. He checked his watch, 6:49... Akaashi sighed. Almost time...he thought to himself. He walked into his bathroom and brushed through his hair, styling it to his liking. Which, wasn't really styling it, he kind of just brushed it until it looked like he didn't try, which was what he wanted. He brushed his teeth, semi-smiling in the mirror to make sure his teeth weren't yellow. (Which they weren't.) Akaashi then made sure he was presentable, adjusting his jacket and making sure there were no stains, although Akaashi wasn't one to get stains on his clothes.
