Oh, he was the ray of sunshine, the breath of fresh air

He did not walk, he danced to the rhythm of life

Camelias bloomed whenever he smiled

He was Shen Wei...

20-year-old Shen Wei lived with his cousin, Chu Shuzhi and his wife, Zhu Hong. The kid practically made the sun shine brighter, he was kind-hearted, the nicest person to walk the face of the earth.

Shen Wei woke up and instantly smiled the moment he opened his eyes. He rolled on the bed from one side to the other in joy, grinning gleefully. Why was he so happy?! Oh, his results were going to be out, and he would finally go to university. And if luck was on his side, he would move out of his brother's house. Shen Wei was still trying to contain his joy when...

"Shen Wei!"

The shout made him spring on his spot, his eyes widened in the realisation that he was late. He rushed out of the bed, almost stumbling his way towards the bathroom. He brushed his teeth, took shower, and got into his regular denim and t-shirt, all at lightning speed. He grinned brightly at his reflection in the mirror, before finally, literally, running out of his room.

"Shen Wei!"

Another call. Bad omen. Baddest of the omens.

Shen Wei rushed down the stairs and quickly ran into the kitchen. He took the rice cooker, plugged it in, and went to the sink and started washing the rice.

"Hey, sleepyhead!"

Shen Wei instantly got nervous to hear the voice behind him. He did not turn, just kept washing the rice.

"Ow!" He grunted when a shoe was hurled at his head. He finally turned while rubbing the back of his head.

"Have you gone deaf overnight?" His sister-in-law shouted at him, "Why are you so late? Your brother left without food!"

Shen Wei flinched by the tone of the voice but then nervously grinned, "Jie Jie, I slept late last night, so..."

"Listen..." Zhu Hong approached him, he bowed his head low, too scared of her.

"My husband lets you stay here. We have even given you the old room on the roof and all you are asked to is take care of the house..."

And she slapped his head, making him flinch in pain.

"You ungrateful idiot!" She slapped his head again.

This time a tear rolled down Shen Wei's eyes, he quickly wiped it away but did not look up at her. He knew his head would be replaced by his cheek if he looked up. He rubbed his head, "I'm sorry, Jie Jie, it won't happen again."

Zhu Hong left after flinging a few more curses at him.

Shen Wei quickly cooked the food. Packed his lunch and rushed out of the house, a smile on his face again. And his smile brightened the day even more.
