As a new family in the streets of California, their system around here is pretty rapid. For example, their waking time is around 6:30 am, the local shops will be opening at 8 am, which is the same time when school classes begin. Yes, it's a Monday morning session here in California, the first day of the week, where everyone, including the workers, students is ready to start the day. For the Johnson's, everyone had a duty to complete. Melinda and her brother, Lucas, who are the first to wake up, have already brushed their teeth, washed their faces, packed their books inside their bags, tidied up their rooms, and checked themselves on the mirror. After their morning routines were over, Melinda and her brother came down rapidly downstairs, founding their mother, Mama Louisa, at the kitchen, preparing their breakfast and lunch boxes.

Minutes later, their father drops Melinda and her brother by the school, giving them kisses and wishing them good luck on their first day of school. Looking around their surroundings, her brother's school was just across hers. After the goodbyes, it was time to start the day. The moment Melinda passed the school gates, the first thing she noticed was the color of the school building, the tress, the students with badges on their blazers, and a lot of eyes watching her, as she is walking past them. A few inches forward, she has made it to the big, blue wooden door. As she is entering, her mouth opens up wide, surprised by how wide it is, together with lockers, a storage room, a little history about the school, and so many more. Next, after she toured the hallway, there was a noticeboard with the names of all the new students and the extended detail of each one of them, so as she is looking for her name and finally found it, she had grabbed the number of her locker, and the keys, with her locker number on it. Knowing that her locker number was 18, she went to her locker and opened it, and though she was wearing a computer-lab bag, there was not so much stuff to pack yet. While she was finishing up, there was a friendly smile, a normal girl. Her name was Daphne Graham, a high school girl who has been there for 3 years (this is her fourth year), ever since grade 8. Melinda comes to know that she attends the same class as her and that she lives nearby the area.

The school bells are ringing, which according to Daphne, she says it is time to go to the assembly room. As they were entering the assembly room, Daphne has spotted two empty seats for her and Melinda to sit on. As they were seated, Daphne had recognized three colleagues, which turned out to be her friends, talking and giving each other updates about themselves. When Daphne was finished talking to her friends, she started to introduce them to Melinda. Their names were Bethany, Stephanie, and Gabby, and surprised to know, they also attend the same class as Melinda and Daphne. All of a sudden, the room went silent. A very modern, well-strict woman, with her amazing outfit, amazing high heels,  amazing natural hair was breath-taken, that was literally what Melinda was looking at, the moment she entered. Soon after, the teachers and matric students were filling their seats in the first rows in front of the stage, and on the stage, the teachers were situated. The woman with amazing natural hair announced the whole school to stand and to sing the anthem and the school song. As everyone was still singing, Melinda was looking around just to see if she was not the only one unfamiliar with the school song and she noticed that majority of the students knew the anthem more than the school song, according to herself, she knew absolutely nothing. So as not to make an embarrassing moment for her, she did not move her mouth throughout the school song. Once the singing session was over, the whole school sat down except for the woman, which Melinda has found out, was the Principal.
