Harry was one when he was given to his aunt and uncle after his parents died. From day one they didn't love him nor did they care about him. He was supposed to live with his godfather but the documents hadn't been completed so he had to live with his relatives who didn't like his godfather so he didn't even know he existed.
Draco was the complete opposite; he grew up rich and privileged and had everything he asked for other than his fathers affection. His mother cared but did not often show it. His parents were both lawyers and always on the phone with different people. They were both incredibly smart and although Draco was smart his parents never saw that, accepting nothing less than straight A's and the best in the class.
