I counted down the days in my head. Even though I didn't want to think about it. It was Wednesday now. And Caleb was leaving Friday. Two days from today. I haven't been to school all week and we've been ditching everyday. Now, we both lay in my bed. The comforter was pulled up around me and our legs touched. His skin was warm and I sighed. "I hope my mom doesn't find out," I said. He looked at me and pursed his lips. "What's she gonna say?", he asked me, leaning on his side. I didn't think she'd be that mad. She was always busy with one of her boyfriends anyway. Or at work. I could care less what she did. We had our own thing. "Nothing. What would your dad say?", I asked. His parent was a little different from mine. Whereas my mom was gone and ignored me, Caleb's dad was always up his ass. He was always fighting with his dad and they never got along. " 'Caleb you piece of shit. Go to school. All you do is drugs and treat your gf like shit now go to school so I don't have to look at you. Your just a lazy fucker' ", he mimicked in a deep voice. I couldn't help but laugh. "Damn. Harsh," I breathed. Caleb shrugged. "I can't help but get a kick out of pissing him off," he chuckled slightly.
"Yeah I've noticed," I said. He played with the ends of my hair as we lay in bed.
All of a sudden Caleb's phone buzzed. "Gonna answer it?", I asked him. He shook his head. "Your more important."
His smile made me believe him and I ignored the phone as it buzzed. His eyes sparkled under the lights and as I gazed at him, I noted all the colors in his eyes. "What are you thinking about Ash?", he asked me. I pulled my hand out from under the blanket and poked his eyelid. "Your pretty eyes," I told him. He laughed and it was quiet again. "How come you don't get bored of me?", he asked. I looked at him and kissed his lips. I could feel his breath and the comfort of it, of the touch, ended with me kissing him again. I had forgot he asked a question. "What's with all the questions today?". I answered his question with a question. "Well seeing as I'm gonna be with you until I die, I thought I should know the reason why," he said. He was smiling widely now. Inbetween a smirk and loving eyes, his voice sofened. My heart skipped a beat. He had never said something like that before. Although the thought of us and forever flitted through my mind every now and then. I didn't say anything. I just kissed him again. It was deeper and I felt his hands tighten around mine and the butterflies in my stomach never ceased.
There was a crash in the other room.
I sat up instantly. My mom was probably home. Shit. "What was that?", I whispered. I stood up and padded across the wooden floor. Through my socks, the floor was frozen. Caleb got up and I told him to hang on as I went to check it out. "Stay here for a second. I'll be right back,", I said as I walked into the hall, into the living room. I didn't see anything. But when I went into the kitchen, my mom was sweeping something off the ground. But the man behind her caught my attention. He was unfamiliar to me. Though undoubtedly one of my moms new boyfriends. ''Ashley what are you doing here? Why aren't you at school?", my mom asked as she realized I was standing here. The man caught my stare and stopped what he was doing. Shit. Uh.... "I was sick this morning and Caleb came to take care of me. Who's this?", I asked about the man to switch the topic from school. My mom looked at me and shrugged slightly. "Okay. And this is Josh," she said sweetly. She reminded me of a 13 year old with her crush. I wanted to gag at the way she talked to him. "Baby this is my daughter Ash," she told him. He knodded in my direction. Nice douchbag. Great introduction to her fucking kid.
In the next second, Caleb came out of the hallway and into the kitchen to stand behind me. His arms wrapped around me. "Feeling any better?", he asked me. For a moment I didn't know what he meant. But I realized he was going along with the lie I had told my mom. Which also meant he was listening the whole time. That little shit. "Much,'' I muttered, trying not to chuckle. He smiled and kissed my cheek. "Hello Tish. And Tish's... I'm gonna say boyfriend. Hi my names Caleb," I looked at the floor, shaking my head. Caleb had to meet everyone. My mom, Josh, and Caleb all spoke for about a minute before they up and left again.
