I don't really know how to explain this, but I've been in such a weird place. I've been more depressed than I've ever been, but I've also been super happy about things? I've had a lot of things happen, both good and bad that have effected me, and I'm learning that I just have to take it, whatever it is. I don't know if any of you watched "UNUS ANNUS", but when it ended it really got me thinking about how I spend my time. And it hit me, it's MY time. I get to use it how I want. I've decided I'm going to look into publishing my stories sometime in the near future. It's what makes me happy, so that's what I'm going to do. Sorry for all this, hope you enjoy the chapter!-A.B.
Mal's POV
"Is he going to be okay?" The question had been at the forefront of my mind since my brothers and I heard Theo screaming, but the question now hung in the air between me and Kal'ayy and he examined our unconscious mate.
~
Kal'ayy assessed that taking Theo to an examination room would be worth the risk of worsening his condition. So with extreme care, Theo was scooped up and brought to a sterile room with monitors, equipment, and a plain bed where I laid him down
"W-what's happening to me?" Theo forced out. A thin sheen of sweat had broken out across his forehead, due to whatever issue his body was struggling to combat.
I looked over at Kal'ayy, hoping he might have some idea of why might be happening to him, but he simple shook his head as he prepared medical items unknown to me.
I sat on the side of Theo's bed and ran my fingers through his sweat coated hair, "We don't know yet, but Kal'ayy is going to figure it out, it's gunna be okay." Theo started to nod in agreement to my statement, but it was cut short by his body contracting and his arms wrapping around his stomach in a futile attempt to ease the force of whatever was happening inside of him.
My brothers and I all gathered around Theo, we all try to give him some semblance of comfort as the pain reduced him to a sweating, shivering mess. Kal'ayy inserted a needle and catheter in his arm. He collected a blood sample and also gave Theo fluids. Theo's eyes were glassy as his body shook and clenched consistently. At some point Theo stopped responding to our words of comfort, and his body had gone limp on the bed. We were all a heartbeat away from panic before Kal'ayy assured us he and his medication were the ones behind Theo's fainting spell. "With the obvious stress Theo's body is under, along with the likely anxiety of wondering what was going on, it will be better for him to be a sleep until we are aware of what's going on and how to aid him." Kal'ayy explained.
Theo still shook a little, but at least he didn't have fearful or glassy eyes and he wasn't folding over in pain periodically. But looking at the readings we saw on the monitor, something was definitely wrong.
"That's way to high, are you sure that's right?" Vel asked Kal'ayy.
He looked just as confused as Vel did, "The readings are accurate to his current state, but that's far to high for him."
"Hey, do one of you brainiacs want to inform the rest of us what's going on with our mate?" Zek asked from his spot opposite of me beside Theo, holding his small hand between his own two, much larger ones. It was just another reminder of how delicate our mate was, and how fragile.
"My apologies." Kal'ayy said. "If you look at this reading, his blood cell count is far too high."
"And that means?" Nadi paused his pacing the room to ask.
"I'm not sure." The fearful look on Nadi's face and the pissed off one on Zek's prompted another answer from the doctor. "Let me correct myself. I don't know exactly what it means, but I can run so more tests to find out. From my understanding, higher blood cell counts in Terrans indicates an infection that has entered the body. I'll need some time to figure out what is causing it, but for now Theo is stable and safe. I'm going to keep him sedated though, panicking would only make things worst, and it seems he is less susceptible to the pain of whatever is happening when he is asleep."
"How could you know that? He's asleep! He can't say anything about what's happening to him! For all we know, he's stuck inside his own body with only pain!" Zek projected. I understood his frustration, but yelling at Kal'ayy for doing his job wasn't going to make it any better. But before I could say anything, Kal'ayy spoke up first.
"While I am aware of your fears, might I remind you we have four direct connections to Theo that can grant us any indication that his pain has worsened? I noticed when I sedated Theo you all relaxed, which wouldn't have happened unless Theo felt the same way. Check your mind for yourself if you don't believe me." Kal'ayy stated.
Zek closed his eyes, honing in on the bond him and Theo shared, and upon opening them, reluctantly nodded to Kal'ayy and muttered a "sorry" to him.
I cleared my throat to bring the attention away from Zek, "When do you think you'll know what's happening?" I asked.
Kal'ayy sighed, "I'm not sure, I have a few tests I can run to narrow things down, but Terran biology still has several areas of study that I haven't been as well versed on. If it's something obscure, it could take a while. Hopefully I've already heard about it or I can learn about it quickly. I will let you all know when I find something conclusive."
~
After waiting for a good portion of the night by my mates side, along with my brothers, Kal'ayy came back into to the room with an awareness that gave me hope. "Is he going to be okay?" I asked Kal'ayy, I didn't care what was wrong with him as long as I knew he was okay.
"Yes and no." Kal'ayy stated, confusing us all.
"Meaning?" Zek asked. He had spent a good portion of the night both cursing and praying to every class 5 species he could remember. I could tell by the look on his face that he wasn't in the mood for a complicated response from Kal'ayy. (AN: species/ planets are ranked based on "class" which indicated both their awareness and involvement in the galaxy. Examples: Earth is a class 2 planet because they are pretty uninvolved, Castilla is a class 3.5, aware and involved, so a class 5 would be considered gods or higher powers. I might go into details about this later, but I think I might be the only one really interested in the lore lol!-A.B.)
Kal'ayy explained, "Yes, he's going to be okay, but not if something isn't done soon."
"Well fucking tell us already!" Zek yelled.
Kal'ayy look down to his feet, he almost seemed embarrassed to answer respond.
"This is something most physicians should not ask of their Kings." He coughed a little to stalk time, it seemed. "There is really no other way to put this, it is time for you all to mate with Theo."
I know it seems silly that I ask you questions about what you all think is gunna happen next, but seeing people honestly spending time thinking about my writing makes me so unbelievably happy! I also am workshopping a couple of books and I might do a contest or something to let people pick things in them (Names, appearances, ect.) let me know what you think!-A.B.
