"Hey, I gotta talk to Diomedes real quick I'll be back in a little," I told Nala before leaving.

Sivers knows Nala mom isn't dead.

That really got my attention. Diomedes thoughts kept repeating that over and over, until I heard it. We went outside, but didn't talk until we were at Peanut Lake. Diomedes usually kept his thoughts clear when I was around. Anything he was thinking he had to tell me. Hell, I can barely read Nala's thoughts, but at least I can get snippets. I get nothing from him.

"So where is she if he knows she's not dead," I finally asked him.

"Not sure. She said she wanted to talk to her kids before she left. Something about if they had to find out, she wanted to tell them. As for their dad, I never knew where he's been and I doubt that Sivers knows about him. Marie has always been more outgoing and spontaneous," he said, picking up rocks and skipping them in the lake.

I joined him, trying to process everything. "Marie, Nala's mom?" He nodded. "Okay so why are you telling me this again?"

"I have a feeling she will be captured soon. If she is, John, Nala's dad, will go after her. We can't let him do that because then Nala will find out and try to save them. The point is we can't let their whole family get caught. He will want Nala if he finds out about her abilities." He looked at me and said,"Are you following, what I'm saying?"

I nodded even though I didn't. He sighed and grabbed my shoulders, "Nala and Stiles are pure Evos, the strongest of the kind. They will be used if anything happens that they can't control. I'm sure that Nala is mad and happy her parents aren't dead. If she's happy enough, she'll do anything for them which could get her killed. If she's mad enough, she'll do anything to rebel against them which could get a lot of people killed."

How did I get myself caught in this shit.

If I remember right Jasper said that Sivers wanted Tamara and Stiles to use them for capturing more Evos to kill them. If the bastard got Nala, he'd use her and Stiles to do his bidding. Diomedes looked at me with understanding and approval like he knew I just cracked the code.

"Wouldn't it be easier if we just killed the man or have him locked up," I said. It sounded like a smart idea to me.

"You really have been so oblivious to the world, haven't you. Sivers is, I guess you could say, the leader of this nation. You can't simply just kill him, he's well protected. Trying to kill him or confine him is a suicide mission."

"If people are marked because they're important, than I guess I have to accept that mission," I said dreading that I mentioned that.

"I can't let you do that kid-,"

I stopped him before he could go on, "I understand what you said, it's suicide. Look, I barely have anything to live for. I'll tell Nala everything. I should probably be heading back anyway," I said turning my back on him.

When I returned home, I checked on Ro first to see how he was doing. He was eating some pizza, intensively watching tv and trying to stay awake. Tamara was by his side. She waved over to me, then got up to tell me something. I already knew what she was going to say before got over. She'd been thinking about it the whole time.

"I know, I'll talk to him about it," I said holding my hand up so she could sit back down.

She smiled, nodded and sat back down. Apparently people were still looking for Jasper, but he was for sure on our side.

Jasper was hanging out downstairs sitting on the beanbags, drinking something. I had to squint to see what it was, he noticed me looking and got up running to me wobbly. The dude was fucking wasted. He tripped over a pillow falling on the ground face first. I bit back my laugh and went over to help him.
