Steve and Sam help Nat out of the truck that Maria had for us waiting. I place my arm around her as she holds a tissue against the wound. Maria leads us into this secret facility getting the doctor.
"GSW she lost at least a pint".
"Maybe two," Sam adds.
"Let me take her" The doctor signals. "They'll wanna see him first," who is she talking about?
"Well, it's about Damn time," Nick is alive. And he is in a hospital bed.
While the doctor treats Nat, Nick tells us what happened.
"Lacerated spinal column, cracked sternum, shattered collarbone, perforated liver, one hell of a headache."
"But they cut you open, your heart stopped," I threw in there.
"Tetrodotoxin D slows the pulse beat to a minute. Banner used it for stress but didn't work so well for him but we found a use for it" Nick adds.
"So why all the secrecy, why not just tell us?" Steve asks.
"Any attempt on the director's life had to look successful," Maria explains.
"Besides, I wasn't sure who to trust." Nick's words really hit me. Nat and I have been about close to him as Maria is. Steve even became a part of it. I understand what he did but to question our trusts just hurts.
"This man declined the Nobel peace prize. He said peace was a responsibility, not an achievement. It's stuff like this that gives me trust issues." Nick throws a picture of Pierce on the table.
"We have to stop the launch," Nat looks at everyone.
"I don't think the council is accepting my calls anymore." Nick opens a case with what looks like three SD cards or chips.
"What's that?" Sam asks.
"Once the helicarriers reach three thousand feet, they will become fully weaponized in a triangular form," Maria shows us on the computer.
"We have to assume everyone is hydra and place these server blades in each of them. Then maybe, just maybe we can salvage..." Steve cuts off his words.
"We are not salvaging anything, we are taking down shields, not just the carriers."
"Shield had nothing to do with it," Nick throws back at him. "You gave me this mission, this is where it ends. Hydra grew under your nose and nobody noticed." Steve shoots back.
"Yeah we are cave, I noticed," Nick states.
"How many paid the price before you did, shield, hydra it all goes". Steve makes his final case. Nick looks at all of us seeing we agree with Steve.
"Looks like you are giving the orders now captain." Nick leans back in his chair.
Maria Shows us the uniforms we will wear. She hands Nat a business suit as she will impersonate as the councilwoman and she hands me a suit identical to her own but in a more smokey grey.
