[TW: Suicide, fear, death]

Are you, are you

Coming to the tree

Where they strung up a man they say murdered three

Do you remember, back when we were kids? Every month they would take the prisoners and sentence them to death. We would be forced to watch as the life drained from them. The pain on their faces was already bad enough, but the screams were way worse.

Strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be

If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree

''The tree of souls'', that's what they call it now. Because so many people were forced to separate from life. They say the ghosts live there now. They say it is a gateway to hell. They say, they say, they say...

Are you, are you

Coming to the tree

Where the dead man called out for his love to flee

The worst time was when father got hanged for a crime he didn't commit. Hearing beg for his life, his screams lasting for an hour. And then, just as he took his final breath, he muttered three words: ''They are coming''

No stranger would it be

If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree

We didn't pay attention to it at the time, as it was normal for the soulless to say strange things near the end. We mourned him, and then went back to our normal lives, as per court order. We should've listened to him

Are you, are you

Coming to the tree

Where I told you to run, so we'd both be free

One year later a group of soul raiders came in, saying that mother was accused of a murder, and should be taken to the prison. We pleaded and fought, but there was nothing we could do. And then she was hung too, but she didn't speak at her death. She only cried.

No stranger would it be

If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree

We were orphaned, and no-one wanted to take us in, seeing as we were related to two soulless. We wandered the streets, taking it day by day to work through the grief and stay alive

Are you, are you

Coming to the tree

Wear a necklace of rope, side by side with me

However, staying alive has been really hard. The hate, the constant punishment. They do not want us to stay in the town anymore, but we have nowhere else to go. Tonight, at midnight, we will join our parents, and become the first soulless who weren't prisoners
