Three hours later, Bill was sitting in his Lambo. Beside him was Agent Pristone. They were going at the attacking car's coordinates, which were being tracked by the FBI for two hours, before it came to rest in a forested area. The car has been there since then.
Bill's Gladiator came to a stop as they reached the car's last footprint. By then the sun was already tipping over the west and they were almost in the middle of the forest, staring at the structure. Situated in a large, cleared land, the fortification stood high. It resembled the Cold War-I like structures, a thick boundary encompassing a square parameter, with an empty space in its centre without any roof. It probably had shelters inside the boundary walls.
As soon as they reached there, the FBI teams set up the security devices and scanners. After the scanning of the building was done, one of the officers reported to Agent Pristone.
"Sir, we have completed the security checks of the boundary layer of the building, which shows no sign of any human or ammo. But our scanners are unable to detect any further than the inner wall." He said.
"And why is that?" The Agent questioned.
"The second wall appears to be coated with lead, blocking the scanner's radiation."
"Since we don't have any idea of what we're dealing with, it would be mad to go inside with the full force. So I think if preliminary testing for potential attackers turns out to be negative, then Bill and Ethan should go in there with me." He said while pointing towards Bill and an FBI officer, whose name tag read 'Ethan D. White'.
Bill and Ethan opened the gate and Agent Pistone followed them. All three had their guns out and looked around cautiously.
From his back pocket, Bill took and wore his reading glasses. He then tapped on its side and instantly the partially dark space turned visible in dark green. He looked around the structure and saw its rather simple, but spacious design. He looked up to see two tower-like structures protruding from the boundary wall. On the back side of the area, some vehicles were parked, with a small pond in a corner to their left. They did preliminary testing and concluded that there was no one in there.
In the centre of the space, Bill found the car. He called Agent Pristone and both of them checked it from the outside, but did not find anybody in it. At that moment, Ethan appeared from one of the pillars, carrying some papers and an old diary.
"Sir, I have checked all of the compartments. There is nothing in there, except this bundle of papers." He said showing the papers in his hand.
"Nice work Ethan. Now you go and keep them in our truck, while Bill and I check this car." Ethan left the building.
Both of them moved around the car, looking for potential threats. While standing at its back side and looking for his tracker in the car, Bill gently placed his hand on the car's back. Suddenly he felt current moving under his fingers and instantly a red light glew inside the car.
"Shit" he muttered, as they both realised what it was.
Without wasting a second, they both backed off and ran away from the car. They were mere ten feet from it, when it exploded. This explosion was followed by a series of blasts in the walls, which left the whole area covered in flames.
Bill looked up, only to see the immensely bright image of the flames coming through his NV glasses. He immediately took them off and it took him almost half a minute to regain his vision. Agent Pistone stood up on his feet and saw that the entrance had automatically closed and the path was blocked by the flames. He yelled at Bill.
"The entrance is blocked! We should get towards the pond and then wait for the support team.."
Bill agreed and stood up. He followed the FBI officer, while still being a bit dizzy. They had almost reached there when he stopped. He looked at the ground and noticed the algae pattern a bit disturbed. He immediately caught Agent Pristone's shoulder, pulled him and jumped away. The explosion shook the entire place. Bill turned over to see Agent Pristone unconscious. He sprang on his feet and looked around for any way to escape, only to find a wave of flames around them.
Highly risky, but the only way to survive.
He picked up the aged fed, wrapped him in his jacket and then jumped right through the flames. As soon as they landed, Bill threw away the burning jacket and started rolling on the ground to extinguish the fire on his clothes. Still lying on the ground he looked up, only to see the door being broken up and firemen entering the place, before he went into unconsciousness.
Far away from the burning building, on a small hill, a pair of binoculars were partially visible among the bushes. It stayed there for 5 more minutes, before disappearing in the total darkness.
