CORBYN CONTINUED READING, the next few entries were all about Fleur explaining what not-so-nice things the band members would do to her and how she was feeling worse every day, along with little "positive" (and by positive, I mean not depressing) notes about Kaya. It was the last entry, however, that worried the five boys the most.By now Corbyn had given the diary to Jack to read, since he didn't want to do it anymore.
Jack took a deep breath and stared at the entry that was written that day. "Dear diary, as you know, things have been spiralling out if control. Can I tell you a secret? After all, you're the only one who would understand. I almost did it again today. I know, I promised my mom I'd never do it again, but I almost did. Perhaps the only thought stopping me was Kaya and my mom. However, I can't keep this up for long. I feel like I'm falling down a dark hole that has no bottom but I'm already so deep that I can't see any light. Why do I keep going? I'm almost like a robot at this point. My basic instinct to every situation is to pretend. 'Put on a smile, Fleur, or people will think something's wrong and judge you!'. Most of all, being with these five boys who were once (and still are deep down) my idols, is suffocating me. Soon I'll lose all my air, then what? I need to be alone. I just can't handle this. I want to run away and choke on my pathetic tears. If there's one thing I truly want, it's to be happy again. To be happy doing what I used to love. The days before the hate seem like a different me, the old me, the better me. The me that had a chance of being happy. Look at me now."
That was it, the entry she had written on the same day, only a few hours prior to them stealing her diary. "It's not stealing if we give it back?" Zach had joked earlier.
Now they were all feeling worse than ever. A cloud of guilt and sadness hung over the room, it was almost visible. The more they thought about hr story, the more it made sense.
Fleur didn't deserve the hate she got, but no one knew the truth behind the lies. No one wanted to know that they were wrong.
Then, an unexpected thought hit Jack. Where was Fleur? They haven't seen her since the beginning of their show, which was long ago. She surely would've seen them at some point, right?
"Has anyone seen Fleur?"
/
Blurry lines were all that she could see. Her squinting eyes were strained from the bright lights above her.
"Fleur! You're awake!" A girl's voice said.
"W-where am I? What happened?" Fleur croaked, attempting to sit up.
Her eyes were managing to slowly but surely adjust to the surroundings. It was a simple room, but very unfamiliar. She had never been there before.
"No! Don't sit up. You need to rest a bit. It's okay, I've got everything under control. You just had a panic attack, that's all." Kaya popped into view, she was smiling but her eyes were filled with worry.
"Oh, I thought I finally died." Fleur only half joked, her somewhat playful tone suggested that.
"You're at my hotel room." Kaya stated, ignoring Fleur's words.
She sighed and sat on the bed, playing with her cold hands. Kaya was worried about Fleur, even though she tried not to show much of it. She had never been good at expressing feelings, but being with Fleur made her feel safe and accepted.
It was a little bit strange to find out how different the singer was in person than on a screen. Kaya found her to be much more kind, loving, caring, funny, and much more human.
Her opinion didn't change at all though. Kaya didn't believe that anyone should be treated differently just because they're famous.
"I'm sorry."
"What?" Kaya turned sideways to face Fleur.
"This is the worst way to spend your first time meeting someone."
Kaya couldnt help but smile. She was, after all, so glad that she met Fleur. Not the singer, but her best friend.
"Don't worry. I'm just so happy I finally met you. Now I can use this as a reason to get free food."
Fleur laughed. She actually laughed, and it felt so good. She didnt remember the last time she genuinely laughed at something. Despite her fragile body, the bags jnder her eyes and the horrible state she was in, she felt so much better than before.
How much a small laugh can help.
The both smiled and Fleur hugged Kaya. They both felt a strong connection. It felt cheesy to think that, but they both knew it was there. Kaya had never had a true, honest friend before. She could just tell that Fleur and her would be best friends, forever.
Cliché? Maybe. But it was real, and real is rare.
