You know I love Maverick, one of my favorite operators with a compelling backstory and he looks like an alcoholic but less productive

Maverick (Erik Thorn)

Erik wasn't as concerned as he should have been in hindsight. Maybe if he would have just given you more of his time, or better yet, Erik should have just broken up with you, let someone deserving of your love have you. Someone who he would never be, but he was selfish when it came to you. For priding himself on being able to read people, he never felt so blind when it came to you.

At first, it seemed harmless. "Oh, I'm not hungry." " I ate before you got up." and many more lies that made sense at the time.

Erik was so distracted with his work that he never actually made time to sit down and eat dinner with you. He never noticed how you started wearing baggy clothes, how your lips and cheeks were always puffy after you came out of the bathroom, and how tired you looked. God, Erik wished he had noticed.

Erik was sitting on the couch going over a written debriefing of a recent mission. He looked up and glanced towards the kitchen where you were making pasta. Erik adored everything about you. You were kind, patient, caring, and so much more. He had fallen head over heels for you, but lately, he'd been ignoring you.

Erik felt horrible about it, but distancing himself was what seemed best. He didn't know how to tell you that his next mission was going to last six months, but it was now or never, seeing as he only had two weeks until he was leaving. Erik was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard you call him for dinner. Walking over, Erik takes his seat across from you. You walk over and place his meal in front of him and take your seat. Erik stares as you bring out your phone and ignore the food. "Aren't you going to eat?" He says inquisitively. You look up from your phone and glance at his plate of food. You hesitate for a second before giving a firm 'no' and go back to scrolling through Instagram. "Alright, as long as you have breakfast," Erik says and changes the subject to work.

"So, y' know I've been talking about a mission that they assigned me, yeah?" Without looking up from your phone you reply in a full tone. "Uh-huh, what about it? Are you leaving soon?" You put your phone down and look at him for an answer. "Well, yeah, I leave in about two weeks." "Oh, ok well kinda short notice, but it's cool we can make the most of it, I'll take two weeks off work." You pick up your phone once more and go back to what you were doing. Erik stares at you, deciding what's the best way to tell you it'll be a long mission. Deciding that ripping the band-aid off is the best, he takes a deep breath. "I'll be gone for about six months." You snap your head up and stare wide eyes at him. Erik stares back and feels guilt creep into him. "I should have told you when I found out, but I-" "How long have you known about this?" You cut him off, a hint of dismay in your voice. "About three weeks ago is when I found out." Your face turned from dismay to anger in a flash. "And you didn't find this important information to tell me!?" Your voice gets increasingly louder as you get more frustrated. "I didn't think it'd be that big of a deal! We still have two weeks together." Standing up now you get even angrier, and we're about ready to chuck your phone and Erik's face."That's not the point Erik! The point is that every mission you go on has the potential to be your last! And the fact that I may not see you ever again, that makes me want to spend every second until your next mission last! I could have taken off work and spent the last month with you, seeing as I won't be able to for six more!" Your yelling at this point and tears are streaming down your blotchy red face. The raw emotion in your voice causes it to crack. You storm off down the hall and slam the door to your bedroom behind you.
