Percy loved staying underwater. They didn't seem to care if he was broken, they just cared that he was there. He couldn't help but love how they smiled when he smiled instead of frowning when he didn't.
But when he looked up to see the surface, all he could think about was Grover up there, waiting for his best friend like he always had.
His words still echoed in Percys head. "There's a difference between starting over and giving up,"
Percy had never given up before, but it was just that now he really wanted to. Life under the sea was better than anything they had up there.
No, not even Sebastian the crab made him feel better. This was a real low in his life.
Percy sighed and swam out of his room and up to the surface. He made himself dry as he walked into the posiedon cabin.
Grover was staring at a picture. Without needing to see it, Percy knew what it was. It was his only framed picture, and he often found himself staring at it as well.
"Hey G-man," Percy gave a slight smile.
Grover whipped around, face red, "I am so sorry. I know it's weird to find me staring at a random picture but—"
"I get it," Percy interrupted, walking over to look to look at the picture. "I look at it a lot too. Gods, things really were easier those days,"
"Yeah. Before you became the hero of Olympus and before I became the Lord Of The Wild,"
Percy remained quiet for a long moment before he looked up and spoke softly. "Why did you leave?"
"In all honesty, I don't know," Grover sighed and sat back on the bed. "I'm sorry. I meant to only leave for maybe a month, figure out my powers. But one month turned to two, and you tried to IM me and I kept not answering. After a while I just couldn't face you. And when I finally worked up the courage, Hera had switched you,"
"I wasn't mad. I just, I wish you had stayed. I missed you, Grover. You were my best friend, but you left me and it hurt like hell,"
"I know, and I'm sorry. Percy, I just didn't know how to face you again. I-I should just go. You just got back from your trip, I should let you go. I'm sorry,"
"Grover wait," Percy started but Grover had already left, feeling worse about everything by every growing second.
Percy collapsed into his bed, lying there for a moment until he heard the door click. He darted up, thinking it was Grover but his shoulders sunk when he realized it was just Jason.
"Hey perce. I brought you a drink since you haven't drunken anything all day. Plus, I think I can fix you,"
Eyeing him warily, Percy drank the drink. And that may have been the worst decision of his life. But at the time he wasn't worried.
Percy gave a bright smile, "thanks Jason! I can't believe I was like that for a while! Your the best friend I could imagine! I'm so happy! This is awsome!"
Jason smirked, looking at the picture of Grover and Percy and replacing it with one of him and Percy. He looked at the old framed photo and ripped out Grover.
"Sorry 'G-man', it looks like I'm the one who fixed him. That is what best friends do,"
