The sun blazed down onto the smoky, reeking lands of Nagasaki— heat poured onto flesh and bones through strands of light. But even countless millions of beads of sweat could not falter the zeal of even one of the souls in the slightest way possible. After all, their country had lost over a hundred and twenty thousand lives in seconds just about fifty-three hours ago. A hundred and twenty thousand compatriots. A hundred and twenty thousand, neighbors. Lost.

But now there was a single silver lining, that could lead people to a potential safe haven from another of those exploding toys of the United States. Toys! He thought. Big hindrance? Get something bigger, and the problem's small.

They weren't called toys until the theory was discovered. The theory of a repelling force field— that could be built with the help of a newly founded pair of radioactive meteors made of Akrean metal which sped upfront into the lands near Omura Bay.

But what had intriguingly caught his attention was that there was not even a splint of flame as the meteors tore through the atmosphere and sped down the air. Instead, faintly visible effects occurred on the layer of ozone and the deeper atmosphere. The metal was such that it flickered Earth's cocoon to make way for itself. And that was interesting enough for a scientist like him to conduct a quick but detailed investigation.

Now, Silensky was giving orders over the top of his voice, in a cracked but just good enough to work mobile, for the stabilizers to be arranged and fixed in position to be ready for activation.

"Just the right position, the right positi... Yes. Yes," he cried over the phone. "You, there, there. Take care with that. That mini device there— it goes off and all this is waste. You understand? You better understand. Now get on with it carefully. Get going."

He supervised the operation personally.

A quantum explosive, his own creation, was being placed with utmost dexterity into the heart of the meteor that lay in the center of the crater— a small crater, spectacularly. There was still time left for the explosive to reach its final position as a path had to be cut through the meteor, big enough for the field generator to go in and smaller than required by the force field to move through because it had to be controlled to expand only from the top and form a dome at the periphery of the stabilizers. A uniform field of pure energy. The radioactivity of the meteor would support the pressure forming an atomic core. But this was all but a theory. How much could it be turned into reality— only time knew.

And so I've prepared well in advance. Perfect time, perfect use.

He had already used the metal extracted from the first meteor to craft and enhance his mind's creations— and he had been completely successful in materializing the designs. He hoped for the same success in his defense mechanisms as he had achieved in his offense projects.

The moon shone in the night sky as wafts of gentle, cool air blew through the land. But the heat in the bodies had not dropped yet. The time was near due, and they had to begin fast, for even a second of time was worthless at the moment. Strong lights focused on the crater. All were in position and time, and the brainchild of one intelligent person could turn a doomed land into a haven, a safe haven for millions of life that sought solace from their own selves.
