The Test

On my walk to school, I run into my best friend Lilia. "HI APRIL!" She screamed, crossing the street with a huge grin on her face. Lilia was always happy. ALWAYS. She was happy when her goldfish died because "he's in the sea of heaven" like, no. YOUR GOLDFISH DIED AND YOUR GONNA JUST SIT THERE SMILING?! But that's why I love Lilia. Whenever I need cheering up, she's right there. "Hey." I halfheartedly say, too tired to function. "So are you super excited?!" "To be assigned a job that if I make the tiniest mistake, I'll get killed. Yeah I'll have to go with a no on that one." "Oh." Lilia sighs. The only time she's not happy, is when someone discourages her.
We walk the rest of the way in silence, mostly because my brain is at maximum capacity, but also because Lilia doesn't have any words in her vocabulary that mean stressed or upset, so she's practically having a mental breakdown because she doesn't know what she's feeling.
When I get to class, everyone's silent. Usually, kids are yelling and screaming and I have a headache by the time the late bell rings. Ms. Meangelo walks in with a hologram. "Hello class! Before you take your test, I'm going to be showing you a video from our leader, Elisa Wolopp!"
The anthem begins to play, and Elisa's big, fat, head pops up.
"Hello young ones!" The holographic leader says in a fake posh sounding British accent. "Today you will be taking your assignment test. You should take this test answering each question to the best of your ability. At the end of the test, exit the room and head to the auditorium for the assignment ceremony to be given your industry and job. Thank you, and good luck."
I'm handed the test and my mouth goes dry. My tongue is numb, my hands are clammy, and my heart pops like a balloon. I keep imagining my self doing something wrong and getting sent to the torture chamber to be executed.
Ms. Meangelo walks to the front of the room. "You may now begin."
