Delilah's POV

The Reach captured me.

Again.

I'm all alone and no one is ever going to come and save me.

They do more and more tests, each one more painful than the last.

When will it ever end? It's just a cycle of never ending pain and suffering.

Over and over again.

Bart's POV

I open the door to me and Delilah's shared bedroom. She fell asleep a few hours ago and Nightwing brought her here.

The room is dark (as one would expect), and I can faintly make out Delilah's small form under the covers. I quietly walk over to my cot and lay down. I'm too exhausted to even care about changing into pajamas. I just slide off my shoes and curl up on my makeshift mattress.

After a few minutes, I'm about to fall asleep when I hear a rustling noise. I brush it off as Delilah moving in her sleep, but then I hear it again, more vigorously. I pick my head up off my pillow and see Delilah frantically tossing and turning in her sleep.

"Delilah? You okay?" I whisper. I get no response (of course), and I inch towards her bed.

It's not until I'm standing over Delilah when I see the silent tears streaming down her face. Her breathing is also rapid and unstable.

She's having a night terror.

I quickly rush to her side and gently try to shake her awake. "Delilah. Delilah it's just a dream. Come on, you need to wake up." I sit on the edge of the bed and try to cradle her thrashing body, but she wriggles away.

She starts whimpering like a hurt puppy and it absolutely breaks my heart.

She's been through so much. Sure, we're both from the worst future imaginable, but Delilah has definitely had it worse than me.

All of a sudden, Delilah's eyes pop open and she shoots up in her bed.

Her eyes are panicked and unfocused as they briskly move around the room before settling on me. She shakes her head rapidly and her tears turn into full blown sobs.

I wrap my arms around her and cradle her close to me. She melts into my embrace and bawls into my shoulder.

After a few minutes I ask, "What happened, Lilah?" I've never seen her like this before. Before today I have never once seen Delilah cry. It absolutely breaks my heart. She just shakes her head and clenches her hands tight.

We sit like that for a good thirty minutes before Delilah pulls away. "The Reach captured me again. The scientists continued their tests and-and no one came to save me," Delilah signed with shaky hands.

I pull Delilah into another hug and say, "I'm so so so sorry that you've had to deal with this. I  know we've both been through some pretty crappy stuff, but I want to let you know that I'm here for you. Always and forever."

Delilah wraps her arms around my torso and slowly falls asleep. I gently lay her back down on her bed and tucks her back in.

I start walking back to my bed, but I stop half way there.

I turn around and walk back to Delilah. I crouch down and before I realize what I'm doing, I plant a kiss on Delilah's forehead.

"Sweet dreams, Lilah."

Sorry this is short and cringy! I had a small case of writers block and somehow my tiny, idiotic brain came up with this. I don't know why I put the AMV at the beginning of the chapter, but it's there. So...yeah.

Remember to get traught, stay whelmed and feel the aster!
