A WARM BREEZE welcomed me as I exited the NAIA airport.... This is it. There is no turning back. I am really back here in the Philippines...
A man in a black suit approached me, and he introduced himself as my father's secretary. Mabilis ko siyang nakilala dahil ilang beses ko na siyang nakita.
"Ms. Hayden, we are waiting for your arrival."
He offered to carry my luggage. I nodded quickly because I felt tired due to the long trip. He led me to the black car. Upon entering, I fell into deep thought.
I wish my life here will be peaceful. However, I know it will not be what I wanted to be.
Napabuntong-hininga ko at tumingin sa labas. Pictures keep flashing through my mind.
Everything I tried to forget came back like the waves of the sea. All the rage, pain, misery .... And even the past is trying to subdue me.
I try to shift my attention so as not to remember the painful past. Eventually, I chose to remember the conversation my mom and I had earlier before I left Italy.
"Mom, are you sure it's necessary?" I asked her while staring at her intently.
I do not like the idea of leaving them here.
"Yes, darling, it's for your safety." My safety? Sa mga nakalipas na taon na nanganganib ang buhay ko, bakit ngayon lang nila naisipang pauwiin ako ng Pilipinas? "But why do I need to live with them?"
"You will understand everything when the right time comes." Ilang Segundo ko siyang tinignan, napa-iwas na lang ako ng tingin ng makita ang nakangiti niyang mukha.
"Fine." Napipilitan kong sagot.
"Don't worry, darling. You will like them."
"Like the idea of shooting them?" I mumbled. Receiving a glare from her.
"Zera." She said in a threatening tone. "Fine, I'm sorry."
"Don't worry when everything is settled here. We will follow you."
"Okay, be careful here. Call me if anything happens. Got it?" She nodded and smiled at me.
"You better be going now." I nodded and hugged her as tight as I could.
"I love you, mom."
"I love you too, darling." She said while caressing my back.
"Now go." She slowly pushed me and stroked my hair.
"Be safe, would you?" I nodded and smiled at her. "I will miss you." She said before I get in the car.
"Me too." I smiled at her before the car started.
But two questions continue to haunt my mind.
Will history repeats itself?
Or will it be bloodier the second time around?
