❝ do you know what happens to heroes? they die. ❞
Today we were sparring in two different types of groups. First, we would go against our partner from the practical exam. Then, someone who's quirk would have your ass handed because of your weaknesses.
My quirk wasn't the best against several students in my class to be honest. I only would have to knock them out with my quirk to beat them. Other than that, I relied on hand to hand combat, which most students had physical quirks that would be difficult to overcome. I glanced to see who I would get for the second portion. Luckily, it wasn't Mr. God Complex over there. I sighed, slipping the paper away. I glanced over at Tape for Elbows man once again who seemed like he was going to faint from the pressure. Honestly, same to be honest.
"Sero and [L/N]?" Aizawa said, our stinky supervisor who stopped us from having fun. Party pooper overload. Tape for Elbows almost pissed himself on stage. I scuffed my shoe against the dirt, stretching my arms.
"No hard feelings, right?"
"Y-Y-yeah..." he stammered.
He knew he was about to have his ass handed by a newbie.
"Alright, go beat each other up, I'll be having a quick nap-"
Rules were simple. Make your opponent immobile.
Sero launched tape from both his elbows. Letting myself be caught, he grinned as I was pulled towards him. I heard his tape was quite sticky, and from using it in battle myself, I knew I was in quite a pickle. He had got a hold of my arms which was, annoying. I clicked my tongue, throwing my leg up in his face, kicking his chin. Sero stumbled over, still holding on. I stumbled from the kick, falling over. I had no way of getting back up since my arms were pretty much gone. On my back, I kicked my legs up to get myself back on my feet. Though, I overestimated how much I would need and went flying up.
Improvising, I was on my hands. Since my tape was still attached to Sero. I spun like an acrobat on my hands, the tape between us further getting tangled.
He grabbed one of the tapes and yanked it hard, which forced me to eat dirt. I spat out dirt, thrusting my arms back to pull Sero towards me. Tape man was launched forward, smashing into me. The two of us tumbled into the ground. Totally not ideal. My breath hitched. Using this opportunity, Sero released more tape to try and hinder me further. Kicking back up, I grabbed the tape with my hand. Unable to move my arms, I managed to slap the tape on his chest before falling backwards onto ground.
I jumped onto my feet, running towards Sero. It looked pretty fucking weird since my hands were stuck together. The tape on Sero's chest did absolutely nothing for me, just created a stupid obstacle. Sero launched more tape towards me. I ducked and dodged, avoiding tape as if it were the plague. I grabbed the piece of tape on Sero's chest, pulling him towards me. He jolted, caught surprised. I slammed my forehead into his. Hard. We both stumbled back. I wiggled my wrists to see if I could free myself. However, it was stuck. I still held onto the piece of tape.
Using that to my advantage, I swung the tape around. It seemed long enough to work out with my plan. I run at him while he's confused and dizzy. I knock him over into the ground. Quickly, I roll onto the ground and slam the cellophane tape to the ground. Sero grabbed a hold of my hand. He shot more tape out his elbow. I glared at him, catching it in my hand. I kicked him the face for good measure before placing the tape on the other tape I had placed. Sero squirmed, his face dug into the ground. I jumped up, walking over to the other side, stepping over his body. I leaned down, squatting.
Sero knocked me over with his hand.
"Bitch—" I glared at him, slamming the tape on the ground by his arm.
Luckily, Sero's tape was extremely strong and very sticky so he was stuck. So I win. I grinned, jumping back up. Hell yeah. Another flawless victory.
"Congrats." Sero croaked from the tape. Kirishima cut the tape from my arms. I rubbed my wrists, glancing over at Sero who was being freed. Kirishima helped him up. He glanced at me. We made eye contact. The tape boy immediately looked away in defeat. I rolled my eyes, waking away.
Better not to be friends with people here. Don't get too attached. I walked back into the crowd of the class to continue watching the rest of the matches. I was rather disinterested and sat in the grass under a tree further from the class, picking and pulling at the grass. I hugged my knees, resting my chin on my knees. I huffed, blowing hair out of my face.
"Hey."
"Hey," I replied without glancing back up.
"Um, congrats on winning."
I turned to the voice, seeing Midoryia. "Yeah." I said with a half-assed smile. I'd rather be left alone. I plucked a flower from the grass.
"Uh, what are you doing?"
"Minding my own business," I replied, eyeing him. "You're disturbing my peace."
"O-Oh....I just wanted to, uh, check on you?"
I raised a brow.
"I uh-"
"Midoryia?"
"Yes?"
"Do you know what happens to heroes, Midoryia?"
"No?"
"They die, Midoryia." I said, leaning back on the tree. I twisted the flower between my fingers. My eyes locked onto Mother's wedding ring.
"But..we all die eventually," he frowned.
I eyed him, "we, heroes don't get a luxury of a good life."
"What do you mean?"
"We can die at anytime."
"..."
"My mother, for example. Kota's parents too..."
"They're...dead." He said, "I don't get what you're trying to tell me."
"Do you want to be a hero, Midoryia?"
"...yes."
"Then die like one."
I got up and walked off, perhaps blending into the crowd.
