y/f = your friend
I think it's safe to say everyone above the age of 18 wants someone to kiss when the ball drops on new year's eve. At least I do.
Every year for maybe the past five years I've left my small little apartment to go to my friend's boyfriend's yacht.
It's always fun, he invites his friends she invites her friends. There are lots of people and it's like one big party. Except for year after year I fail to bring a boyfriend. For some odd reason, the universe keeps timing my relationships away from new years. Yay.
Last year I almost had someone for new years. My boyfriend said he would go but then made last-minute plans with his family. Not something I can really be mad about. We broke up a few months ago. We dated for almost a year.
Despite the countless times, our groups have hung out, I'm always excited to hang out with our friends for new years because Louis's there. Sure he's always there at other times like when we get together during parties or trips to the local bar. But New Year's Eve is when he has my luck and never brings a girlfriend.
I've sort of had a long-lasting crush on Louis. Since the first New Years' party.
But that doesn't matter.

"y/n! So glad you could make it!" y/f said, greeting me at the dock and bringing me into a deep hug. I waited for her to ask the same question every year, but was surprised when she pulled back and just smiled. I raised my eyebrow.
"What?" She asked innocently.
"No 'Where's you're boyfriend' or, 'Didn't bring anyone?' It happens every year I've been waiting." I laughed. She laughed.
"I don't know I guess I just know something you don't..." She shrugged, walking me towards the yacht. Oh god, she's gonna make me beg for it.
"Aw c'mon (y/f) tell me I'm your best friend," I whined. She put her hands up defensively.
"Sorry, wish I could. But I've been sworn to secrecy." She laughed. I groaned. She put her arm around me and hugged me close.
"I'm so happy for you." She said squealing.
"You're gonna make me go insane." I groaned.
"Just you wait babe. It'll be great."

Inside there were tons of people on the boat already. It's been about an hour since I got here so people have had plenty of time to get drunk. It was around 11, and (y/f) found me with a group of our friends and pulled me to the side.
"Your happiness begins now." She said excitedly.
"I can't wait." I laughed.
She took me into a room down on a lower level where there weren't many people. Out on the deck, there was someone leaning against the side, smiling with his hands in his pockets. Against the moonlight, he looked like a dream. It was Louis.
We walked up to him and he got up from his leaning position.
"Hi." He said, still smiling.
"Hi." I smiled.
"Take care of her." (y/f) said sternly to Louis. I scoffed.
"I'm not a child (y/f), I can take care of myself thank you." I laughed. (y/f) was always sort of like an overprotective sister to me.
"Alright. I'll leave you two alone..." (y/f) left and I turned back to Louis. He was staring at me already.
"So where've you been all night?" I asked. He grabbed my hand.
"Just setting something up." I laughed.
"For an hour and a half? Jeez (y/f) has you doing all her things. He chuckled.
"Wasn't for her."
"So mysterious." I joked, trying not to pay too much attention to the fact that he was holding my hand.
He brought me to the side of the boat, overlooking the water. We talked for almost thirty minutes.
"Sorry about you and Jax (ex-bf in story). I heard what happened." He said. I shrugged.
"We just weren't meant to be. I guess I just never really felt a connection... did you know he forgot my birthday?" Louis's eyes widened. Birthdays are super special to me. I make a big deal out of every birthday.
"Such a dick. You know if I was your boyfriend-"
"If you were my boyfriend I might actually be happy in a relationship." I blurted out. Then my heart stopped beating and he smiled turning his head towards me.
"Really? Why do you think that?" I tried to cover what I said.
"I mean look what you did for my birthday. Your gift was probably the best I got and we're not even in a relationship yet."
"Yet?"
"You know what I mean." he turned completely towards me and smirked, obviously enjoying making me squirm with awkwardness.
"I don't think I do could you explain?" He said cooly. I let my head drop.
"I just think you're a great guy and your future girlfriend will be very lucky and I will be single and jealous forever." I laughed. I tried playing it off but the mood suddenly changed. His face was serious, concentrated. He was closer to me now. He pushed a strand of hair behind my ear, then let his hand fall slowly, gently brushing my cheek along the way. My cheeks reddened and he smiled.
"You drive me crazy." He whispered. I stood completely still as he moved closer to me and his finger trailed up my arm. My breath hitched when he got to my shoulder, slowly moving his fingers towards my neck. He moved my hair back behind my shoulder and smiled.
"(y/f) told me you liked me." He said while walking behind me.
"I'm gonna kill her," I whispered. Now he was pressed up behind me, hands sneaking around my waist. He whispered in my ear.
"No need. I like you too." His teeth caught my ear and I exhaled. He chuckled softly and turned me around to face him. We could faintly hear people counting down to midnight in the distance.
With his finger, he lifted my chin up and smiled.
"Happy new year (y/n)." Then he kissed me as everyone cheered. His arms wrapped around my waist to pull me closer, my arms made their way up to wrap around his neck. Our lips fit perfectly together and moved as one. My hand tangled in his hair and he pulled my legs around his waist. He brought me to a room on one of the lower levels and set me down on a couch. Our lips detached and he rested his forehead on mine. I smiled and bite my lip, breathing hard.
"This is for you sweetheart." He moved out of the way to show me the room. I gasped and put my hand over my mouth.
The room was tidied up with candles placed everywhere and rose petals all around. I turned to Louis.
"You did this all for me?" I asked, tears forming in my eyes. He nodded and smiled proudly.
"Why?" I asked. "I mean I love it and I'm so thankful but, why me?" He looked at me carefully. He cupped my cheek and his eyes attached to mine.
"Because you're special (y/n). You make me so happy and whenever I'm around you I just feel better. Happier. You're the woman I want to be with." He finished. I smiled and wrapped my arms around him, one hand tangling in his hair to pull him closer.
"You're the man I always want to be with." We both desperately latched our lips onto each other.
Best New Years Ever.
