Ron's POV
Today is the day. We have Quidditch trials. I eagerly run to my dorm to change.
I put on my sports gear and grab my broom. I rush through the school, making my way to the Quidditch Pitch.
I rush out there and there's a group of guys standing out there. I join them and stand by myself, waiting for Harry to come out.
He walks out with Ginny, both of them in their Quidditch gear. He tries to talk but no one hears him.
"Okay. To get started, I'm going to be putting you all through a few drills to assess your strengths." Harry says but the boys continue on.
"Quiet, please." Harry pleads, looking at the group.
"Shut it!" Ginny shouts, causing all of them to quiet down.
"Thanks." Harry smiles at her.
He turns back to the group and groans.
"Alright, just because you made the team last year does not guarantee a spot this year. Is that clear?" Harry asks.
Everyone murmurs in agreement and Harry claps his hands.
"Good." Harry says.
I look up and see Elena in the stands. She sees me and waves. I wave back as I smile.
Of course she's here. Now I have to do good.
I'm snapped out of my thoughts as Cormac bumps into me.
"No hard feelings, Weasley." Cormac starts, causing me to raise my eyebrow.
"Hard feelings?" I query.
"Yeah, I'll be going out for Keeper as well. It's nothing personal." he reveals, looking out at the stands.
"Really?" I question.
I'm just a bit confused. Because keeper isn't a Cormac McLaggen type of position.
"Strapping guy like you. You've got more of Beater's build, don't you think? Keepers need to be quick. Agile." I state.
Cormac quickly snaps his fingers, killing a fly that has been buzzing around for a while.
"Ah, I like my chances." Cormac says before looking back up at the stands.
His gaze intrigues me. I follow it and he's looking at Elena. Oh, he's fucking bomby.
"Think you could introduce me to your friend Malfoy? Wouldn't mind uh-. Getting on a first name basis. Know what I mean?" he taps my arm.
He doesn't even wait for my answer before he starts to walk away. I clench my fist and I'm walking towards him when Harry grabs my arm.
"Don't do it, mate. Save it for the pitch." he tells me, ushering me to the middle of the pitch.
Elena's POV
Trials have been going on for a while. I sit out here and watch as Ron and Cormac try out for Keeper.
Ron flies to one goal and Cormac the other. I look between the two as I see them prepare for the mini game that's about to happen.
When the game start, Cormac blocks every single quaffle coming his way. Ron does the same but just barely.
This continues for a while as I watch in terror. Ron falls off his broom but quickly grabs its handle, pulling himself back onto it.
I know if Cormac blocks one more goal, he will beat Ron out for keeper. And I can't let that happen.
As the Quaffle came flying towards him, I cover my mouth.
"Confundus." I mutter, looking at Cormac.
As the Quaffle gets to the goal, he swerves out of the way and it goes through. He looks around in confusion as I look at the ground smiling.
When it was Ron's turn, he blocks the Quaffle with a quick shot from his head. I smile as I realize that I just gave him the boost he needs to be put on the team.
———
Hermione, Ron, Harry, and I are all in the Gryffindor common room. I'm reading Pride and Prejudice again.
Hermione is reading a newspaper. Harry us studying his Potions book. We're seated around the fireplace as Ron starts chuckling.
"I have to admit. I thought I was going to miss that last one. Hope Cormac's not taking it too hard." he says, making me roll my eyes.
Glad to see it's not going to his head.
"He's got a bit of a thing for you, Lenie. Cormac." Ron states while looking over at me.
I slightly slam my book down and look towards him.
"He's vile." I reply.
Lifting my book back up, I start to read again. I see Ron look back at Lavender and she's looking at him. However, she quickly looks away as his eyes meet hers. I scoff as Harry asks me a question.
"Have you ever head of this spell? Sectumsempra." Harry queries, shoving his book in my face.
"No, I haven't." I tell him as I look at the book.
"And if you had a shred of self respect, you'd hand that book in." Hermione chimes in, looking at him.
"Not likely. He's top of the class. He's even better than you and Lenie, Hermione. Slughorn thinks he's a genius." Ron adds, causing Hermione to close her newspaper.
She shoots him a glare and he shrugs.
"What?" he inquires.
"I'd like to know whose that book was. Let's have a look, shall we?" Hermione says, reaching for Harry's book.
"No!" Harry blurts out, standing up.
Hermione follows his motion, shooting to her feet.
"Why not?" she queries, placing her hands on her hips.
"T-The binding is fragile." Harry stutters, causing me to laugh.
"The binding is fragile?" I repeat in a mocking tone.
"Yeah." Harry shrugs.
He doesn't even notice Ginny snake her hand towards him. She snatches the book, quickly hopping to her feet.
Harry tries desperately to get it back, a flustered look falling onto his face. I smile as I look over at him.
It's obvious he has a crush on her. Hermione and I would never be able to get away with this.
"Who's the Half-Blood Prince?" Ginny asks, looking up from the book.
"Who?" Hermione questions.
"That's what it says here. This book is property of the Half-Blood Prince." Ginny reads.
We all look at Harry and he shrugs. Ginny throws him the book back as he walks away, shaking his head.
Harry runs up the stairs to the boys dormitory. I look back at the two and I shrug.
"He must be offended." I state.
I say goodnight to everyone before walking towards the stairs to the girl's dormitories.
I can't wait until tomorrow, the first Hogsmeade trip of the term.
I haven't been drinking or around a social setting in a while. Tomorrow will be amazing.
