Hey y'all! I'm going to be taking a break from this book and focusing on my newer book! (Painful beauty) go check it out.

It was quiet. It was quiet. Why was it quiet?

Usually she woke up to the screaming and fighting once again. It became part of her routine. Suffocate herself with her pillow to drown out the sound. Go downstairs no eye contact made. Leave.

But now it was silent. She inhaled, was it over? Too silent for the Mars household. If there wasn't fighting there was the kitchen. Dishes being cleaned or pots clattering. Muffled footsteps, but no it was dead silent.

The silence to make your ears ring.

She rushed downstairs. The familiar figure on the couch. Her father inhaled sharply when he noticed her. Something was off, yes extremely off. Then it hit her.

Her coat was gone. Her shoes. Her favorite oven mitt and towel. The photo frames were shattered. Her mother wasn't here. Along with her stuff.

"Where's mom?" she huffed out. She expected her breath to be hitched or cracked but it was hollow. It was empty but still full. "She left didn't she, she's not coming back.." She knew the answer to the missing artifacts in the home. It continued with her father nodding. Their eyes never meet that morning.

She felt her knees were going to buckle but she pierced herself back and walked upstairs. Not an emotion hit her until she reached the threshold of her door.

Like her routine she covered her face with her pillow. Except she screamed. Her lungs were teasing and screaming with her. The pillow dampened.

She soaked her face into her ocean filled with tears. Her eyelashes became sticky and her checked swelled.

Why would she leave. How could she, yes they were fighting but she always assumed they would ease up. Not expecting her mother to pack up and leave suddenly one day.

Her head was spinning. As the child who would spin so fast on the merry go round and couldn't walk straight after. Managing to topple over into the dirt, laughing their head off.

The one woman who she adored. Might she had a closer relationship with her than her father. How dare she leave her daughter in the dust. Not even with a note. Nothing.

Her father dragged her out of the house. She walked with empty thoughts. Empty mind. Empty feelings.

The day went in slow motion, even though she skipped most of her classes to sit on the floor in a bathroom stall. It was the last period and she went to grab her phone when her fingers brushed against an envelope.

She pulled it up and he fingers shaking tremendously as she read:

Evelyn,

Your mother left for a reason. Of course I couldn't tell you because they're watching. She ran Eve now I don't know where for many reasons.

Eve don't come home. DON'T. please honey. I know you probably have many questions that I can not answer and never will be able to.

The fighting has been due to that I have done really bad things, I messed up Evie. We didn't move to America. We fled. But they found us. Now is not the time to be mad at your mother. She thought it would be best to come here.

Don't look for her as she is being hunted as well. Now you run, Every face you bring into this mess is one more life flushed down the drain. They know your face. They've watched you. The police can't help as though they are them.

You can't trust anyone.

Be safe Eve and I'm sorry. I truly am. I love you honey and so does your mother. Goodbye

She sprinted out of that bathroom letting her feet carry her before thinking. She ran to her group with tear streaming down her face.

"Woah Eve whats wrong?" as Owen caught her arms when she slammed into him. Not meaning to. She needed to get home. She ignored that part on the letter.

She managed to choke out "something wrong with my family, I need to go home now!"

They all exchanged looks at each other and then back at her. Questioning glance's, worrying looks. Their Eyes Were beating down on her like if the sun was only inches away from her eyes.

"Ok? Lets walk you there." Quinely grabbed her arm but she pulled away sharply.

"No, no I have to go alone" They argued back and forth for about five minutes.

"No you're not, Eve have you seen your face? It's red and you've been crying. Will go with you." Luke stammered giving everyone questioning looks. Ivy smiled to herself. No one noticed.

She was hesitant but every moment she wasted arguing here was another moment that something bad was going on.

So the five of them raced out of the school, Eves house was walking distance but she ran. She felt her lungs drain as she was still sick. This pain only made her run faster.

She stopped at the threshold as the others caught up. She slowly turned the door handle.

Her breath was the only thing she could hear at the moment.
