It was a bright and clear day as a five year old Charlotte sat in the parlour with her aunts and the baby Sabrina. The one day the child was allowed home after living at the academy for the first 5 years of her life.
"Your father should be home any minute dear I'm sure he's missed you." Charlotte smiled looking down at her drawing waiting patiently until the door opened
"There she is my beautiful daughter" Charlotte face lit up as she slid from the tall car looking up noticing she wasn't the one being spoken to. Edward picked up the baby Sabrina and began smiling. Zelda looked at the heartbroken child and cleared her throat.
"Brother, Charlotte is home." He nodded not even bothering to look about from the babe in high arms.
"Yes yes, hello Charlotte" she smiled a little and he huffed "how's your classes?"
"Good"
"You're studying hard?"
"Yes sir."
"Top of your classes?"
"No quite sir"
"Then you better get studying." She looked at the ground with a nod.
"Yes sir... I drew this for you..." she held out the piece of paper and he hummed
"I'll look later Charlotte I'm busy with Sabrina right now. Anyway shouldn't you be getting back to the academy?" She looked at her aunts and down at the floor.
"Come on love. Let's go get you some sweet things to eat later." Hilda marched her out of the room in an attempt to stop her heartbreak.
"Edward really? The poor girl hardly sees you and you pay her no mind?"
"What do you want me to do Zelda. She's cursed. The girl will turn poison soon enough. All we can do is hope that Sabrina grows up well." Outside the door Charlotte stood listening, Hilda walked out from the kitchen and saw her crying as she pressed her ear to the door.
"Oh darling..." Charlotte opened the door and looked at her father. Him and Zelda stood in shock at the fact she heard.
"You don't want me?" She asked her voice barely able to keep from breaking. Edward huffed and put Sabrina down looking at her girl.
"My dear, something very awful happened to you. I know this, but it's not safe for you here. Perhaps these days here should stop. It's not safe for you to be around Sabrina." The aunts gasped and Hilda places her hands on Charlotte shoulders and Zelda looked at her brother in shock.
"Edward!"
"What? You want me to lie to the girl? She isn't supposed to be here, nor do I want her here. I have a perfectly healthy child and that's what matters." Charlotte looked at Hilda with tears in her eyes.
"May i go home please." Hilda gave a nod and lead her away.
"He doesn't mean it my dear come on." She looked over her should at Ambrose sat on the stairs watching her.
"I'll see you soon cousin." He smiled but the girl stayed somber.
The whole way home Hilda spoke of how Edward didn't mean the cruel things he said and how she would sort it and the her and Zelda loved her. But the girl didn't listen. Not once. They returned to the academy and the sisters were sat on the steps waiting for her.
"Charlotte! We missed you can you come and play?!" Charlotte looked at her aunt with a small smile and Hilda nodded.
"Go on I'll come by next week to see you."

"How did it go? Did you have fun?" Prudence asked her friend with a smile but the girl didn't look so happy.
"Father said I was sick. He said he doesn't want me there anymore." The sisters frowned and then prudence held the girls gloved hand.
"It's okay you can be our sister. We can be family!" Charlotte laughed a little and nodded
"Okay!"
"Lottie your back!" She stood up quick with a smile and nodded
"Hi Nicky." He gulped a little pulling out a flower.
"I found this for you..." she smiled reaching out with a gloved hand to take it.
"Thank you. It's pretty." He looked around.
"Wanna go play?" She looked back at the sisters who nodded.
"Okay. Let's go."
