This evening.
After my study buddy musical with my new crew, Patt gave me a two-dollar bill with Thomas Jefferson on it. Where is this boy getting this money from?
I text momma that I'll take the bus home, but she tells me to wait there and tell her the address. I do that.
Fifteen minutes later, momma's here. I open the car door and step inside.
"Ooooo. This a nice house." Momma checks out Ryan's house, and then sees my dollar.
"Is that a two-dollar bill?!" Momma gasps and asks, excitedly. Momma may be happy with the suburban life, but I think deep down she's still thinking about poppa. I realize ever since she moved us outta South L.A., she seems calmer and happier. This worries me.
"Momma, are you okay? You're happier than usual." I usually see her cry.
"That's because I am happy, Barbie. I just got promoted at Kaplan, today. God is good, isn't He?" He's good alright. Good enough to take your future husband and my poppa away.
"Yeah," I look down, disappointed. Momma changes the mood.
"So, who is this boy you was talkin' 'bout with your Barbie dolls?" Momma happily whispers, taking some of my personal space. I look at her like Momma.
"You know who I'm talkin' 'bout. His birthday's coming up, next week. Is he a white guy? You swirlin', Barbie?" Momma's excited about me finally having a social life.
"Momma, he's just a friend. He was nice enough to lend me money to ride the bus with him and his crew." I was really feelin' Rhashaad, but I'll have to move on to somebody else. Momma's convincing me that Patt could be the one. Momma needs a date, bad.
"Okay, Barbie," she waves her hands in mid-air, "You don't have to tell me, but I'll figure it out." She's so silly. I shake my head. She starts driving us home.
After momma drops us home, I go to the kitchen to see if she cooked anything. She made meat casserole. We microwave it and eat it together on the dining table.
After I ate dinner, I walk upstairs to my room and enjoy solitude. I walk to my desk and sit on the chair. I check my iPhone for anything since it's silent. Both Heterochromian Patt and Kevin Kelly liked my background of poppa from two hours ago. Now, poppa has four likes.
I look at my two bestest friends. "Y'know, girls. Things has been great so far." I tell both Barbie and Christie.
I pick up my diary to write on it. I have been doing this since sixth grade. My psychiatrist and both of my school psychologists told me to write positive things about myself and positive events that has happened in my life. It's to help me cope with dysthymia. All the negatives would be drawn on my sketchbook, very detailed, and positive sketches too. Here I go.
Dear Diary,
Today was a wonderful day. I've made a new friend in one week, then two more. I hope things can stay this way. I really want our friendship to last. Patt is such a nice guy. Rhashaad was my first crush, but he chose somebody else over me. So, it's his loss. I am happy for him and Bree. But, Patt? He could be the one for me. He might be my first kiss, my first boo, my first.... love.
Anyways, Ryan and China are amazing peeps. China was actually born from China and she's actually Chinese. What are the odds of that? I can't wait to join them in music, Lunch B and the library again. I don't want things to change. I hope I can be cool with his brother, Matt, too. I think it's cool that he has heterocromia, I think that's how it's spelled. He's not like the other guys in school. I think I like him. More than a friend. Right now, we can be just friends until we figure out where our friendship will take us.
