The story starts in the middle of the sentence. As story unfolds, we get to know the beginning and the end. The way they told us the story is not relatively straightforward. Its convoluted maze. They just shows us the pieces of the puzzle.. how Lee Gon lived after the treason night in two ways from young Lee Gon's POV till he finds who the savior was and adult Lee Gon's POV how he managed to find a beautiful solution.!!
The history about the flute they said and the treason that happened and all the things that happened subsequently, like Lee Gon giving Jo Yeong the name.. "unbreakable sword", Court lady Noh giving Lee Gon that ID card and the half flute hidden in, rowing competition and chasing white rabbit and all has to happen so that Lee Gon can meet Tae-Eul in the end.

Lee Gon became orphan when he was eight years old. His dad was murdered by his own uncle. And he was strangled to death by his uncle because he was messing up his uncle's plan. When young LG ordered the guards to arrest Lee Lim for his action and declares it as treason. He sentenced Lee Lim to the maximum penalty by the law. But the guards turned on him, they were his uncle's men. He was fighting alone.. completely helpless. As a kid he would've wished for someone to help him. When he was half conscious he saw his savior who left Tae-Eul's ID card.
He was brought up by Lady Noh and his uncle Prince Buyeong. As he grew up, the trauma makes him feel anxious whenever he remembers that treason night. He hates people touching him. The third person touching him. Someone he is not known before. As he is hurt by his own uncle.. he has that fear. They showed us in later episodes when he was getting ready for the day, lady Noh tells him captain's father passed away last night and while handing him a black tie "Put this on before you go in and please hold on for a while." As soon as he got inside the car the tie he wore hurts him.. he remembers the treason night, his uncle strangling his neck, this thought made him feel suffocated and pulls his tie and unbuttoned collar button. His heavy breathing made the driver to snap his face at the rear-view mirror. Jo Yeong orders him to focus on driving and that's the best for his majesty. Whenever he thinks back about that fateful day 25 years ago, he feels anxious. He clearly remembers the feeling of being suffocated.
