The Secret Grounder

Chapter 11- The Mountain

Me and Echo make our way back into the forest at a slow walk, we don't bother going any faster as we finally have no one looking for us.
"I never had time to thank you Echo."
"For what?" She asks stopping and turning around to face me.
"Dragging me out of the water," I laugh, taking a step towards Echo l.
"No problem," She starts, "i couldnt let you drown."
I raise an eyebrow at the girl,
"I never knew you cared." I laugh.
Echo rolls her eyes and laughs, " of course i care." The brunette pulls me into a hug,
"Woah," i laugh, hugging her back," everything okay?"
"Yeah, im good." Echo says into my shoulder. We stand hugging for around a minute and in that minute i realise that leaving Echo for Raven was one of the worst descisions i could've made. Yeah i loved Raven, but Echo was different.

Echo pulls away and stands opposite me,
"What you thinking about Kay?"
I shake my head out of my day dream,
"Nothing."
Echo raises an eyebrow, "sure?"
I nod," im good. Promise."
We make our way towards someplace where we can sleep the night, we end up finding a cave a ten minute or so walk away from Mt Weather. Echo starts a fire in the middle of the cave and i lean myself up against one of the walls,
"Back here again." I sigh, placing my hands behind my head. Echo nods,
"Im afraid so. Its really the only place we can stay for now. Unless you want to got back to Azgeda."
"Nah, heres fine." I laugh quietly.

Echo walks over to where i am sitting and slides down the wall to sit next to me, without talking she slides her arm around my shoulders and i lean into her chest. I feel her fingers running up and down my arm, sending shivers through my body. She visibly relaxes when i don't pull away and she rests her head on top of mine. My brain becomes groggy and my eyes begin to close, before i fully pass out i hear Echo whisper.
"We'll be alright."

Echo's pov-

I focus on the girl leant against me; listening to her steady breaths which tell me she is sleeping. The only issue is she's leaning on my chest, meaning i cant move. Kyara had already been asleep for a few hours and it was almost light out. I decided to wake her up,
"Kyara," I whisper, shaking her shoulder slightly," cmon wake up."
The blonde throws her hands over her face and groans leaning further into me, so her head is pretty much on my lap.
"I don't want to wake up." Kyara groans, i poke the blondes cheek and she giggles.
"Okay! Im up." She laughs, sitting up against the wall.
"Finally."
Kyara stands up and brushes down her trousers, she looks down at me.
"Do you think there out?" She asks, her eyes turning softer at the mention of her friends. I shrug,
"I don't know Ky, we could go and check. If you wanted?"
"Yeah sure." She sighs offering me a hand, i take it gladly and allow her to pull me up. I stamp out the embers from the fire and throw some dirt over it, just to make sure we don't burn down the entire forest.

Kyara's pov-

The sun was beginning to rise through the trees, and it cast an orange glow on the brunette infront of me. It didnt take long to arrive at the beach,if you can call it that. I took a guess that because of the amount of people that was escaping they would find another route, and that they would not jump forty feet into a pool of water.
"Lets keep walking," I say to Echo," up there." I point upwards to a small building on top of the mountain. Echo nods and starts walking infront of me, i jog to catch up to the brunette. After another ten or so minutes we arrive at the building, it ended up being an above ground exit for Mt Weather. I climb up the ladder in the side and sit with my legs dangling over the edge, the brunette comes and sits next to me.
"What will happen when they get out?" Echo asks," Your camps destroyed."
"I don't know, maybe just set something up somewhere else." I say shrugging. Echo nods and mumbles 'maybe'. The ground beneath me rumbles, the sudden movement causes Echo to grab onto my shoulder.
"What is that?" She asks her voice quavering slightly due to the shaking of the earth.
"Its coming from inside the mountain." I say jumping down from the room of the buliding, i land directly infront of the door and when firmly on the floor i make my way over and try to open it.
"Echo!" I shout to the girl, beconing her over to help me. We both grab onto the door pull it as hard as possible, it wiggles slightly but doesnt move nearly enough. Echo gently pushes me backwards, " let me try something." I nod at the girl.
The brunette kicks the door with all her strength and it finally caves in.

Footsteps ring through the hallways below us, shouts and screams being heard from everywhere. People come running through the open door, carrying other that are injured. Echo looks over in my direction and smiles,as she does a familiar face comes hobbling out of the door.
"Raven!" I shout moving over to hug the girl,
"Hey." Is all she manages before collapsing, i catch the girl and set her down on the floor noticing  patch of blood on her left thigh. I just hope everyone else is still alive.

Again, sorry for the crap chapter. And also sorry for how long it took to be posted. My internet has been down because my provider is doing something with the towers so its been really slow. Its up anyway! Hope you like it so far!
