"Shorter, leave me alone," you growl, shoving the boy off your shoulder with a frown.

He pauses mid sentence.

"Y/n, you okay?"

Huffing, you turn away to hide your expression, "I'm fine."

"Hey, tell me what's wrong!"

"It's nothing!"

He doesn't but your empty words, grabbing your shoulder to make you look at him.

Your eyes meet his and your facade cracks.

"It's just. . ."

"Yeah. . ?"

You look away, "Ash keeps ignoring me."

Shorter's brows knit together.

"He told me to leave the meeting today and I've tried talking with him but he won't listen to me," you continue.

Your purple-haired friend frowns.

"Well?" You ask him.

"I'm sure he has a good reason-"

"Yeah, he hates me."

"That's not true!"

You shake your head and walk away, "See ya later, Short."

He watches you leave with a scowl on his face.

"You've been ignoring her!"

Ash's face betrays no emotions as his best friend berates him.

"It's none of your concern."

"She's my friend, Ash."

Ash closes his eyes. He's been afraid that this would happen.

"Look, Shorter, it's better this way."

"How?!"

Ash slams his fist against the wall, which makes Shorter stop his rant.

"I-" Ash breathes deeply, "It's better this way, alright."

"You don't know that. Y/n doesn't think this is for the best."

The blond fixes a fierce stare upon his friend who walks away.

In truth, he knows he's hurting Y/n. But, he can't just ignore the fact that being close to him puts a target on her back.

With an exasperated sigh, Ash leans his head back.

Why can't she understand that this is for her own good?

You walk down the dark street, ignoring the curious gazes of the people lurking in the shadows. It's not exactly safe to go walking alone at night, especially when you're part of a gang, but you couldn't care less.

Frankly, you just need to do something to get your mind off of things.

Turns out, you'll be doing more than just walking.

"Hey, pretty lady~" a nearby male catcalls.

You ignore him.

"You're pretty cute for being fat."

You try to ignore the stinging insult but rage floods your spirit. He struck a nerve and now you're close to snapping.

"Hey, I'm talking to you!"

He straightens himself out to approach you with an angry expression.

Unflinching, you turn on him and stare him down.

The man pauses, clearly not expecting you to act this way.

You calmly reach into your pocket, pulling out your trusty gun, and point it at his forehead.

"What? Were you saying something?" You sneer as the man pales, trying to back away.

Stepping in time with him, you corner him against the brick wall. Your finger twitches, almost setting off the trigger.

"Y/n!" A familiar voice calls, snapping you out of your bloodlust.

You turn your head slightly to see Ash sprinting towards you.

He's the last person you want to see right now.

Smacking the pervert's face with the butt of your gun, you turn and start to walk away.

"Wait!"

"No!" You shout back at the blond, "How does it feel being ignored?!"

He grabs your arm but you shake loose.

"Please. . ."

The sadness in his tone melts your resolve, so you face him, "Spit it out."

"I shouldn't have ignored you. . ."

"Damn straight!"

He hangs his head and grits his teeth, "I'm-I'm sorry, okay! I was scared you'd get hurt!"

You pause.

"What are you talking about? I'm in a gang, there's always a possibility of getting hurt."

He rakes his hand through his hair, "I know that, there's just more probability if you're with me."

"Do you think I care about that! I love you, for goodness' sake!"

"I-I love you too, that's why I want to protect you," he explains, his pleading eyes gazing into yours.

"Y-you do? Even though I look like-"

"You look beautiful," he interrupts, "I wouldn't change anything about you, Y/n."

Tears prick at your eyes as he wraps his eyes around you.

"I'll always love you."
