Gunfire whisked past my ears as I loaded a fresh clip into my rifle and shot the single gunman the very second he popped his head out from behind the corner, piercing his eyeballs with a single bullet. Our home is still standing, bits of debris were blown from the rooftop along with the dismembered limbs of all atop it... my friends. Kee. Lucas. Killian. Bryan. All of them were up there, all of them gone, and my mind and body trying hard to cope with the destruction around me.
Dwayne had gotten to his feet despite the gunshot wound. The bleeding was slowing down, it would take far more than a single bullet to knock him down for good.
'The others are out there' I said 'We need to help them, can you run?' I asked him.
Dwayne looked at me and smiled 'Does a bear shit in the woods?' he asked with a grin.
I slapped his shoulder and grinned.
We ran out of cover back into the street where the Ripper initially stood, now nowhere to be seen. Instead we were met by the large beast like man who I thought to be the leader, staring right at us with no weapon on him. The only guns he carried were his bulky muscles.
Dwayne pushed us both aside, cracking his knuckles and ready for the fight.
The beast of a man removed his shirt despite the freezing temperatures and looked at Dwayne before shouting to the sky like a wolf, hitting his pec's.
And then he broke into a sprint towards Dwayne who quickly grabbed his rifle and shot the beast in between the eyes. Killed him instantly.
He turned to face myself and Dylan 'Too tired for this shit' he said, cocking his weapon back 'Let's go!'
We sprinted towards the thundering sound of gunfire, bullet shells clashing between my group and the Ripper's.
I glanced over to my right, to the pool of blood surrounding the pale faced body of Ger, Samantha's cousin, his lifeless body lying dead on the ground.
'Mark!' Dylan shouted, bringing my attention back to the horrors before me 'Let's go!'
The light of the crescent moon was the only light source we had, take away the flames of the supermarket. The white moon watching over the destruction of the town below, where people of the same race fought to kill each other in the midst of a deadly outbreak where we should be fearing the dead, and not the living.
The entire street where the Ripper's army stood only moments before is now desolate, but the town far from it. Men jumped through windows, taking cover within demolished stores as they shot at the enemy. We huddled against the wall of a store, quickly turning our bodies around the corner where my eyes met five of the Ripper's men, their backs to us. I shot a bullet into each of them with Dylan's aid. Dwayne had moved ahead, suddenly one of his men launched at him from hiding in an alley, but Dwayne acted fast, grabbing the scrawny soldiers head and dislocating it from his neck. Just as he did another one of the Ripper's men came at me from behind, knocking me to the ground and quickly putting his pistol up against my head, only to be quickly shot dead. His body laying on top of my back before I pushed him off. The gunshot did not come from Dylan or Dwayne, it came from behind us, from the man standing in the fog and the thick snow holding a freshly fired assault rifle. Bryan.
He helped me up and we quickly ran in through an arch inside a store, shielding ourselves from the gunfire. The interior of the store was the same as every other one in the town. Snow had found it's way in. Our freezing bodies took shelter from the gunfire inside the store, checking our ammunition and readying our weapons.
'I thought you were dead' I said to him.
He shook his head 'No' he replied 'Myself and Killian got down off the roof when Jerry left, said we'd cover him from the ground'
