It was another day in Celestial Academy. After the unit cup, things had started to calm down for at least a little - though many students were starting up preparation for the Celestial Trial. The large scale competition between every student to crown the top idol was just over a month away - before anyone knew it, it'd be time for it to start.
"Meguru and Kizuna feel like they're so far ahead of us," Hinata said, mindlessly playing with a yo-yo, "If any of us want to win, we need to work harder."
"Not that I'd ever expect to hear that from you," Tsubaki started, "But you're right. The Celestial Trial is no joke."
Midnight, as usual, were sitting in Mai and Tsubaki's dorm room, trying to figure out where to go next. MeguruMeguru ended up winning the cup and if Kizuna were counted as contestants, they almost certainly would have surpassed the supernatural duo. Taking that into account, Midnight had come in third - an impressive feat, but not the one the unit had been hoping for.
Yet, Mai still stayed positive.
"I still think we stand a chance," she said, hugging her knees, "Even if we didn't win, we still did the best out of any first years - even the majority of second and third years too!" she smiled, "Isn't that kind of amazing?"
"When you put it that way..." Tsubaki started, playing with her hair, "You don't feel discouraged?"
Mai shook her head. "I probably should, but..." she placed her hand over her chest, "Something about Kizuna's performance felt so... hopeful. It made me feel like I could do anything if I put my mind to it."
"I think I get what you mean," Hinata said, finally placing the yo-yo down, "I felt the same way when I first saw them perform live." She paused. "Kizuna are amazing."
"They are," Mai agreed. For so long, people had been hyping up the unit to her yet, somehow, she was still blown away.
She wondered if Midnight would ever be able to give others that same feeling...
Their phones pinged. Mai picked up her phone, reading through the message. "The three of us have been called to the headmistress' office," she said, getting up from her bed.

"Excuse us."
The three walked into the office, where the headmistress was waiting.
"Good day, Midnight," She greeted, "You all did marvellously in the unit cup."
"Thank you," Tsubaki said.
Headmistress Kagamine smiled. "I'm sure you're each wondering how to take your unit to the next level. Which is why I've called you here." She handed the three a piece of paper. "We've rented out a performance hall for Midnight to have their first-ever concert."
In awe, the three glance over the poster together. It had a photo of the three that had been taken prior to the unit cup, with 'Midnight's First Live' printed at the top. The set date was at the end of January - not long away at all.
"I apologise for the short notice but I can assure you that it'll be a worthwhile chance to take. High-level staff will be supporting you along the way, along with myself and your teachers."
Mai's grip on the paper tightened, crinkling it slightly.
She smiled.
"Thank you, Headmistress. We'll be sure to make the most of this opportunity - right?"
"Of course! We're only the best unit in our year group; who else could possibly be fitting for this?"
"We won't let you down."
