"What happened after that?" Hazel asked amusingly.
The whole time, Hunter had been telling her some very 'true' stories. She was starting to really like eight-year-old's imaginations.
"This gigantic wave pushed me under the water! Then fifty sharks came and started attacking me!" He continued, putting a very big emphasis on all his words.
"What did you do?" Hazel asked with fake suspense.
He smiled widely. "I shot them with my laser gun!"
"Of course you did." Hazel said under her breath as she smiled at him.
The eagles talons clung harder to her shoulder, making her yelp. Hunter didn't look like he was hurt, but he looked frightened.
"A--are you okay?" He started to hyperventilate, his eyes wide.
"Calm down, Hunter. I'm fine." Hazel reassured him, attempting to calm down. "I'm fine."
"O--okay." Hunter relaxed, but he didn't look too good.
The eagle screeched, starting slowly through the clouds. They were landing. That wasn't going to be good. Hazel guessed it wouldn't be a nice place either.
"Hunter." Hazel started. "Hold on--" The eagle suddenly jerked back upwards, screeching loudly in surprise. It twisted in the air, making Hunter scream. The talons dug farther into Hazel's shoulders. She let out a yelp before reaching over and grabbing Hunter by the wrist as the talon let him go. He was screaming as he clung to her arm, his eyes wide with fear.
When the eagle dropped Hazel, Hunter screamed again. They sped down through the clouds, Hazel holding Hunter frantically by the sleeve of his shirt.
She could see the dark waves crashing against shore, seagulls flying high over the bay.
Where exactly were they? Hazel didn't have time to find out.
"Keep your legs straight when you hit the water!" She yelled over the wind. "Get to the shore as fast as you can--"
"What if I don't hit the water?" Hunter swallowed, staring below at the rocky terrain.
"You will." (A/N Maze runner anyone?) Hazel took a deep breath. She was going to regret this later. She grabbed Hunter by the shoulders and shoved him as far away from the shore as possible. He screamed, his shaggy hair blowing into his face.
"But what about you!" His eyes were wide as Hazel drifted farther away at the force she threw.
Hazel inhaled deeply, trying to calm herself as she sped closer to the rocky shore. "Hunter, you have to listen, okay?"
He furrowed his eyebrows. "O--Okay."
Hazel swallowed. "Do you remember when we were talking about your dad?"
He nodded.
"Do you know what he can do?" She continued.
He nodded, then frowned. "No."
Hazel thought for a minute. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea. If Hunter really could fly, it wouldn't matter for her. He surely couldn't hold both of them, even if he did have his dad's powers. But if he didn't try, they'd never know.
"You know he's the king of the sky, right? And that means he controls the things in the sky." She waited for it to sink in. "He can control the winds, okay? And I think you can too."
Hunter blinked. "Like... Fly?" His eyes lit up. "That is so cool! I can fly! Like Peter Pan!" He smiled widely.
"Do you think you can try? Right now?" Hazel said hopefully.
"Yeah, awesome!" He immediately zoomed towards Hazel, her mouth wide open as they both flew towards the shore in a gust of wind.
Well, that went fast.

Piper
Piper hated television. Every time she tried to watch it, something went wrong. So when she finally woke up, she wasn't too enthusiastic about her being tied to a chair in front of a big flatscreen T.V.
Why? She had no clue. That was even worse.
"Piper. Piper, are you awake?"
For a second, she thought it was Jason. But when she looked up, it was only Nico.
"Are you okay?" He was tied to a chair too, about ten feet away from herself. He seemed fine.
"I'm--I'm..." For once, she actually thought about what the question meant. Saying you're okay was... Was like saying there's nothing wrong. You could say you were okay, but it would never be true. At least not for her.
But she only had two more days to say she was okay. After that... She couldn't. The others still didn't know about her deal with Thanatos, and she wasn't exactly thrilled to tell them either.
The ominous black mark creeping up her arm was hidden by Jason's light jacket... Wait. Where was it now?
She could feel a cool breeze on her bare arms, sending shivers down her spine. What if the others saw the mark? They would obviously know something was wrong. They might not even know what it meant. But Nico...
He was the son of Hades. The underworld and death. He would surely know what it meant.
Two more days.
Just two more days to live.
