Frank
Frank woke up to the sound of sirens.
He could see the flashing lights through his eyelids, but he was too groggy to even think about moving.
Hazel... Where's Hazel?
Frank blinked to clear his vision, but it was like a sheen of smoke covering his eyes.Everything was still a blur, but he managed to push himself onto his knees. His head spun like a top. Nausea hit him like a sledgehammer.
"Whoa, take it easy son. You need to lie down." He didn't resist when he felt hands easing him back onto the crinkly plastic of a gurney. "Can you hear me?"
Frank faintly nodded his head. His brain deflated with the motion.
"Alright, that's good. Can you see me?"
All he could honestly see was a blurry blob of black and white in the shape of a human, but he didn't feel like shaking his head around again. "Yes," he tried to say, but it came out as a rasp and made him dissolve into a coughing fit. He tasted blood in his mouth.
"Frank!"
Frank wiped the corners of his mouth, his sleeve coming away red and sticky. His ears rung.
"Don't trust them, Frank! Don't--" The yelling was muffled to a stop.
"Hazel?" Frank wheezed out, searching around the sky with his bleary eyes. He tried sitting up again, this time fighting around the man's grip. A shot rang out and Frank found himself gasping for breath as he lost his footing. He collapsed onto uneven ground, tumbling in a downwards spiral until he felt water steal the breath from his lungs.
Cold waves dragged him deep underneath the surface, and he lost consciousness.
