Annabeth

Annabeth had forgotten how great she could sometimes feel while fighting monsters. And right now, next to all the other campers and people she'd known since her first days at camp, was one of those times. She knew Percy would've wanted to be here. But he needed time to heal. He had to stay behind this time.

Clarisse was on Annabeth's left, and just as usual, she was fighting like a beast. It was actually kind of scary. On her right was Reyna, who was just as good (if not better) than the daughter of Ares.

Together, they deemed unstoppable.

At least until Hecate started to mess with them.

Annabeth almost had whiplash when the monster in front of her completely disappeared. She hadn't even touched it yet. In fact, the rest of the monsters in the cave seemed to vanish out of thin air.

Clarisse and Reyna vanished, too.

All Annabeth saw was a big, empty cavern. She felt alone, but she knew that the others were around her. She could still hear them. "Guys? Do you see--er--I mean, are you seeing normally right now? I think Hecate decided to join the party."

"Whoa." Clarisse said beside her, sounding awed and confused. "What is this place?"

"You mean you can't see the temples?" Reyna replied off to the right.

Annabeth shook her head. "I don't think we're seeing the same things. I'm still in the... Oh gods." She felt the horrible rush of warm wind, as if she were falling. Everything went dark except for a feint hue of orange in the sky. There was nothing around her, nothing except for a few barren trees and rocky black cliffs. "Not again."

"Annabeth, are you okay? What are you seeing?" Reyna asked cautiously. Annabeth felt a hand on her arm.

"Annabeth!"

The voice startled her, heart hiccuping. "Percy?" Then she saw him, Riptide in his hand as he charged towards her. He was smiling in a really crooked way. "Percy, you're supposed to be resting! What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to help. You know I wouldn't miss out in the chance to rip a monster's throat out." Percy slowed to a walk, stopping a few feet away from her. "Besides, this place isn't real. This isn't Tartarus. That McLean girl, she's messing with out heads."

Annabeth frowned. 1) Percy only kills when he needs to, 2) He would never say Tartarus out loud again without at least a small wince, 3) Percy knew Piper's name and referred to her as much. This person, whoever it was, was not Percy.

Before Annabeth could even react, however, Piper appeared out of thin air and punched "Percy" square in the jaw. He hardly stumbled, but Annabeth heard the distinct sound of bone snapping.
