THREE STEPS AHEAD

SITTING ON Bruce Banner's lab table is not something I would suspect I'd be doing this Monday.

I have to visit my handler, Rumlow, later today. But, it's scheduled around dinner time, instead of its usual time in the morning area.

So, I'm sitting here, on Bruce Banner's lab table, being tested on something. Don't know what, and don't really care.

Something about trying to figure out what HYDRA injected me with to see if I have any hidden powers, or something.

Obviously I have SSS, better known as SuperSoldier Serum. Another injection for my ability to heal myself and others. Vera would heal others, I on the other hand, that's a different story.

I need to be at peak at all times.

"Just hold still, I need to draw some of your blood real quick." He commands.

I stiffen automatically, standing at attention. He gives me a funny look, before sticking the needle in. Red blood flows through the tube, into the pint bag.

I kind of like being in Bruce's lab. It's calming and relaxing. Clair de Lune softly plays overhead.

I can really think in here, I don't know why I haven't come sooner. Oh wait, that's right. I'm not friends with these people, they're my enemies.

    That's what HYDRA says anyway.

He quickly finishes his work, telling me to wait for the results. "They should come in quickly. Tony has the best equipment I can use in here, so we should get the results in another ten minutes."

I nod at him, not giving him a verbal response.

Captain Rogers walks into the lab, unexpected company with him.

"Edward Rumlow, what are you doing here?" Just because I'm not Vera, doesn't mean I can't see Eddie as my brother. He's the only person I let me care for. And I only do it so little.

He shrugs with a smirk. "What can I say? Prison didn't really suit me."

"Of course it didn't." I fake a chuckle, and Edward being him notices.

His eyes turn concerning, but doesn't question it with everyone around. This is why I love him. He probably knows it's the ShadowHunter instead of Vera, him seeing me switch many times.

The ten minutes I had to wait for the results, me and Edward caught up with each other.

It is now confirmed in his head that I am the ShadowHunter.

"There appears to be some type of unknown substance in your blood. I don't know what it is, or how you tap into it. I'll run more tests on the blood, you're free to go." Banner informs.
